OK, so we're a week behind here, but none of the games we would have picked last week counted toward the playoffs. So here, without further delay, we get started on our picks for the 2011 football season.

To some, it's the biggest Division III game of the regular season. To the Souhegan High School football team, it's the first game that will count this season, when the Sabers host Portsmouth Friday at 7 p.m. in Amherst.

MILFORD – The 2011 football season didn’t exactly get off to the start the Milford High School wanted it to. It didn’t take long for the Spartans to fix that Friday night.

Friday night marks the beginning of another high school football season. Six schools - Pinkerton, Bishop Guertin, Souhegan, Lebanon, Kearsarge and Newport - will try to repeat as champions of their respective divisions.
