PEMBROKE – Tony Beaulieu and Ryan Rule each scored two touchdowns and the Alvirne High School football team cruised to a 48-14 win over Pembroke Academy in a non-division game Saturday.

Friday night marks the beginning of another high school football season. Six schools - Pinkerton, Bishop Guertin, Souhegan, Lebanon, Kearsarge and Newport - will try to repeat as champions of their respective divisions.

MANCHESTER – The whole town of Hudson wasn’t at Southern New Hampshire University for Tuesday’s Division I softball championship. It only seemed that way.

The NHIAA has postponed the four high school softball championship games scheduled for Saturday. All baseball games and the boys volleyball final are on as scheduled.

The NHIAA has postponed all outdoor games for Thursday, due to potential thunderstorms and record-breaking heat. The boys volleyball semifinals scheduled for Thursday at Nashua North are still on as scheduled.

The Alvirne High School softball team became the schools third girls team to advance to the Division I semifinals, while Bishop Guertin pulled off an upset to reach the final four as well.

An extra day of preparation seemed to help some area softball teams, as seven of the nine area teams competing in the playoffs Thursday moved on to their respective quarterfinals.
