NASHUA - Joey DaSilva may not call the Collignon Gymnasium his home court any more, but he still wanted to put forth a good showing in what might be the last time he played there.

The Windham High School senior made sure Thursday night was a memorable one.

DaSilva scored a game-high 22 points, including four of the Jaguars' nine 3-pointers, as Windham got out to an early lead and held off Bishop Guertin on the way to a 57-41 win in a Division I contest.

Jack St. Hilaire came off the bench to add 17 points, with three 3s, and Blake Dempsey added eight points for the Jaguars (4-1). For DaSilva, it was somewhat of a bittersweet victory, after he spent his sophomore year as a starter for the Cardinals before transferring back to Windham.

"Especially in this gym, it could possibly be my last time playing here," DaSilva said. "I wanted to make it memorable and it sure was memorable. It felt more competitive for us because these are some of my best friends, too."

The Jaguars jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first quarter and never trailed. Bishop Guertin (5-3) struggled with its perimeter defense, turned the ball over a dozen times and couldn't get its offense going.

"The first thing is, the appropriate place to give credit is to Windham," Bishop Guertin coach John Fisher said. "Windham played very well, very smart. They played into their strengths.

"Offensively, I’m not even sure what that was that we were doing, because that wasn’t the game plan. We’ve got some work to do in that area."

Nate Kane and Dylan Santosuosso each had nine points to lead the Cardinals, who struggled to get shots to go down all night. That included at the free throw line, where Bishop Guertin was 9 of 20 on the night.

"It was awesome," Windham coach EJ Perry said. "What I credit that to was our defense. They were very focused, especially in the first half. We got (the lead) up to 25 in the second half. We’ve got to make sure we put the nail in the coffin on that. They’re a very good team and very well-coached, and you just have to play your game each time out."

Windham opened the game with three 3-pointers, two from DaSilva, and made it 11-0 on a layup by Jack Runde before Bishop Guertin got on the board. The Cardinals outscored the Jaguars 10-6 over the remainder of the quarter to make it 17-10 Windham after one.

But Bishop Guertin scored four points in the second quarter, on a basket and two free throws by Kane, and trailed 30-14 at halftime.

"We started off very well," DaSilva said. "We were deadly. Coach Perry loves shooters and he says shoot your shot. We start off like that, it’s hard to come back."

The Jaguars got the lead up to 20 points in the third quarter and after a three-point play and a 3-pointer by DaSilva, Windham led 53-30 with 6:13 left in the game.

Neither team will have much time to dwell on Thursday's game, as they get right back on the court Friday at Windham.

"I’ll spend some time (Thursday watching film)," Perry said. "We’ll have to look at the little things they were trying to do and we’ll prepare. When they come in like this, we’re ready to go."

For the Cardinals, it's an opportunity to move forward.

"I hope it’s an off night," Fisher said. "We need to play well against good teams and they’re a good team. That is a nice thing. I don’t have to wait to see what’s going to happen, because we play (Friday) night."
