After a timeout, the senior stole the ball from Epping's Dylan Derosier and went in for a breakaway layup in the final seconds to lock up a 50-46 win over the Blue Devils and give the Warriors their first boys basketball championship. Those five points were part of Litts' game-high 22 points, 19 of which came in the second half, and Trey Carrier scored 13 of his 15 points in the first half, and grabbed 13 rebounds to help keep WLC (18-4) in front going into halftime. "It's a great feeling and it's great for the community of Wilton," Garnham said. "I've been coaching a long, long time, and it certainly is a great thrill. For the community and the kids, it's fantastic. That's a heck of a team that we played, no doubt about." Epping (17-5), which was trying to win its second title in a row, battled back from a seven-point deficit in the third quarter with a 12-0 run. The Blue Devils had a seven-point lead of their own in the fourth quarter, but scored just five points in the game's final eight minutes. Colby Wilson led the way with 19 points, including a halfcourt buzzer beater to end the second quarter, and Derosier added 12 points. "I was really proud of my boys," Epping coach Sean Young said. "They did everything ... defensively, we did the perfect job. We missed some shots we normally make, some missed layups, some missed free throws. The Blue Devils were 5 of 10 from the line for the game, including missing the front end of a one-and-one twice in the fourth quarter. But Epping was able to find ways to contain Litts in the first half and force the Warriors to settle for a lot of outside shots. WLC was just 5 of 18 from behind the 3-point line, but Litts had four of those, including a four-point play in the third quarter that gave the Warriors their biggest lead. "I saw a quote by Kobe Bryant, I think it was two years ago, that said 'I'll go 0 for 30 before I go 0 for 0,' " he said. "I'm not going to let me missing a couple of shots in a row keep me from shooting because I know my guys need me to score points. I'm going to do what I've got to do." In the first half, it was Carrier doing what needed to be done, as the WLC sophomore consistently found his way to the basket on offense and corralled rebounds on the defensive end. After Epping scored the first points of the game, WLC took the lead and held on to it into the third quarter. Two baskets by Carrier and another by Ty Carrier (eight points) with 4.8 seconds left in the first half put WLC up five, but Wilson's buzzer-beater swung momentum and made it a 25-23 Warriors lead. The lead was three when Litts was fouled on a made 3-pointer and after the free throw, the Warriors led 33-26 with 4:20 left in the third quarter. "We made the adjustment that we needed to make," Young said. "In the first half, we were walking the ball up. There was no pushing, it was all dribbling. We made that adjustment, but it started defensively. We started beating them to every loose ball, we started to get rebounds and we kept them off the offensive glass." Wilson hit two 3s sandwiched around two free throws by DDerosier to give the Blue Devils a 34-33 lead. Jackson Rivers added another 3 and then a layup to complete 12-0 run and give Epping a six-point lead. It grew to a seven-point lead early in the fourth, 42-35, and the Blue Devils started to slow things down. "I thought when they were up seven, I thought we were in trouble, and they did try and pull the ball out," Garnham said. "We had opportunities and fouled them or they missed a shot. We got the ball back and we tried to get them out of that stall they had." The Warriors started chipping away, getting points from Litts while defense made stops. Epping had just five points in the fourth quarter, none in the game's final 2:27, as WLC went on a 12-2 run to close out the win. "We had a lapse in the third, but I felt we wanted it the most in the fourth quarter," Litts said. But they were still down a point with under a minute to play. After two WLC misses, it looked like Epping got the rebound, but a traveling call gave the Warriors the ball under their basket. Litts passed it in to Ty Carrier and floated out to the corner. Carrier flipped him the ball and Litts let a shot fly. "Honestly, I wanted to pass the ball, but no one was open. I was like 'all right, I’ll take the shot,' " Litts said. "I made two over in the corner before, so this part of it is doing good. Thank God I made it. It felt amazing, but we still had 30 seconds left, so I didn't want to cheer too much. I was cheering a little bit." After the timeout, Litts popped out from behind a pick and took the ball from Derosier. "I knew they were going to set a pick for that kid and then drop it off for Wilson," he said. "I knew if I could get around and just poke it out, I went ahead and it worked out."
