WILTON - The Wilton-Lyndeborough softball team has won plenty of games at home over the years.

Not many were quite as interesting as Monday's 7-6 victory over Pittsfield in Class S action.

The Warriors scored three runs in the first inning, and added three more in the fifth inning to hold a 7-1 lead over the Panthers. An error on a pickoff attempt in the top of the sixth gave Pittsfield an unearned run to cut the gap to 7-2, and then came the top of the seventh inning.

Pittsfield’s Jessica Kennely and Jen Tyrell opened the inning by drawing back-to-back walks off WLC's Sam Broderick. Becka Adams loaded the bases with a single and Crystal Lively singled to left, scoring Kennely and Tyrell to make it 7-4 with no one out.

Broderick settled down and got Brianna Metcalf and Paige Corliss to pop out for the first two outs of the inning.

Jordan Scannel followed with a ground ball that looked like the final out of the game, but the throw was bobbled at first, allowing another run to score to make it 7-5\. A wild pitch then allowed Lively to score, cutting the lead to 7-6.

Emily Buchanan then drew a walk, putting two on with two out, before Broderick got Colleen Corliss to ground out to second to end the game.

“We wanted to win really badly,” WLC catcher Marika Thompson said. “Once we started scoring, it kind of got to our heads. We fell apart. There were plays where we could have made outs, but the ball was being thrown around a little bit.”

Ally Jenkerson finished with two hits and three RBIs for the Warriors (2-1) while Broderick scored two runs and pitched seven innings, striking out six while walking six and allowing eight hits.

The win was the 99th in a row at home for WLC, which plays two games on the road before facing Mascenic at home on April 28.
