DERRY - It was as complete a Mack Plaque victory as you’ll see, and the added prize of being a state tournament win made it all the sweeter for the Pinkerton Academy girls lacrosse team.

The Astros shook off a slow start and cruised past rival Londonderry 19-6 in the quarterfinal round of the Division I girls lacrosse tournament. The win was Pinkerton’s 15th consecutive victory.

The Astros (18-1) led 4-3 13 minutes into the game before rattling off nine straight goals to close the half up 10\. Pinkerton would add five more goals in the second half before Londonderry (9-10) would notch its fourth goal. The Lancers went 24:45 without a score.

“The defense starts feeling things out, and once they realize what’s going on they adjust,” Pinkerton coach Rob Daziel said. “It’s a tough game to defend. Once you understand what they’re doing you make adjustments. Getting first possession really helped too and kept our defense off the field.”

The Astros got that possession thanks to a dominant performance in the center circle. Pinkerton won all but one draw in the game and all that added possession led to a whopping 25-9 shots advantage. Pinkerton also controlled the ground, winning ground balls 18-8.

All that added time with the ball allowed the Pinkerton attack to do its thing. Lauren Lisauskas had a natural hat trick in the first half and finished with a game-high six goals. Lily Auger scored two herself, and Kiley Davis had four goals of her own. Madison Daziel had a pair as well.

“Everyone can score,” Auger said. “Everyone’s good. (Lisauskas) plays awesome every game. She played great.”

Seven total Astros found the back of the net.

“We’ve got some really good players, and nobody’s selfish,” Rob Daziel said. “There’s no egos on this team. All year long we’ve had seven, eight, nine assists a game. We talk about ball movement a lot.”

Up next is Saturday’s semifinal matchup and a date with Souhegan. The Sabers rolled Nashua South 15-1 in their quarterfinal matchup and only lost three times during the season.

Pinkerton won the regular season matchup 16-10 back on May 7\. The Astros are looking to win their fourth state title since 2013 and first since 2016.

Dalziel said that improvements must still be made to get those final two wins.

“Minimize the mistakes,” Dalziel said. “The next game we have will be against a very solid team, and in those games it’s the team that makes the least mistakes that tends to win.”
