LONDONDERRY - After going back and forth all game, the Timberlane Regional High School field hockey team scored late and held on for a 1-0 win over Londonderry as they picked up their first victory.

Timberlane had come up short against some of the top D1 programs this year, such as Pinkerton, Bedford and Exeter. So for the Owls, heading into the game, the need to win was imperative.

Londonderry was also feeling the pressure, as the Lancers were coming off a 7-0 loss vs. Dover before their matchup against Timberlane. They knew that Timberlane was going to come out strong and aggressive.

“I told my girls that Timberlane is one of those teams that comes out with fire”, said Londonderry coach Nichole Treadway. “They want to win. They are dangerous in your circle. We went into this game knowing that it is a game you have to earn to win.”

From the start, both teams were able to move the ball well. Timberlane relied on its powerful drives while Londonderry consistently demonstrated its effective stick stills. Throughout the first quarter, Londonderry was close to scoring multiple times but was unable to finish. Timberlane goalie Brandi Garand had multiple key saves throughout the first.

As the first quarter came to a close, the score remained 0-0\. Londonderry’s strong sense of team comradery continued into the second quarter, but Timberlane started to make more of an aggressive offensive push.

At about the eight-minute mark in the second, Timberlane scored off of a strong hit, but the goal was called back due to being out of the circle. It was still scoreless heading into halftime.

As the third quarter came to a start, both teams were hungry to pick up the win. Timberlane had a lot of momentum throughout the third but was not able to add any points. Londonderry also was close to scoring numerous times but struggled to finish in the circle.

About five minutes into the fourth, Timberlane scored on a corner after relentlessly trying in the circle. Timberlane continued their fast, powerful, and aggressive team strategy as the clock continued to wind down.

Timberlane almost had a goal again with about three minutes left in the game, but the refs called it back.

Towards the end of the fourth, Londonderry struggled to keep up with Timberlane’s momentum and wasn’t able to add any points offensively.

Timberlane will try to use this win to its advantage as the Owls take on Keene Monday afternoon. Londonderry will look to regroup as the Lancers are set to match up against Windham on Monday afternoon.
