Thornton Academy cruises past Goffstown in Chick-fil-A Holiday Basketball Tournament

NASHUA - Quinn Richardson-Newton had a game-high 20 points to lead the Thornton Academy boys basketball team to a 61-48 win over Goffstown Thursday at the Chick-fil-A Holiday Basketball Tournament at Nashua South.

Richardson-Newton scored 13 of his 20 in the first half, as the Trojans went on runs of 9-2 and 8-0 in the second quarter to lead by 16 points at halftime. Corey Hart added 13 points for Thornton, which is in Sacco, Maine, and Reuben Moses also had 11.

Goffstown got 14 points, including four 3-pointers, from Marcus Haynes while Tim Riehl had nine points and Tim Comeau added eight. The Trojans led by as many as 25 points in the fourth quarter, but Goffstown ended the game on an 18-6 run to make the final score a little closer.

Thornton moves on to the semifinals Friday, where it will face Nashua South at 7:30 p.m., while Goffstown heads to a consolation game against Hollis Brookline at 4:30 p.m.
