# The top 20 boys basketball teams in the Granite State

Both Trinity and Bishop Guertin find themselves among the top 20 teams in the state.

The high school winter playoffs are fast approaching and some teams have started to create some separation in the standings. But with every division of boys basketball playing an unbalanced schedule this year, which teams are really the best.

Below are rankings of all boys basketball teams in each division, along with the top 20 teams in the state, regardless of division. How were the teams ranked? By using the Heal Point System, the process used in Maine to rank teams, and you might remember, that was used in New Hampshire for all Class I team during the 2009-2010 school year. As with any ranking system, there are flaws. For example, the HPS doesn't take into consideration margin of victory or quality of a loss. It does, however, rank based on number of wins and the quality of those wins.

Here are the rankings.

## New Hampshire Top 20

There isn't much to debate about the top six teams, and Bishop Brady's No. 7 ranking is thanks to wins over Lebanon, Plymouth and Kennett, teams that all have a high preliminary index.

The No. 8 spot is where it starts to get interesting. While Sunapee has some nice wins in Division IV this year, its win over Newport (Division III) is what propelled it into the top 10\. Same goes for Campbell and its win over division-foe Conant. And Plymouth ends up high on the list because of its wins over Kennett and Laconia, teams that have pilled up a lot of wins this year against lesser teams, and Windham.

Meanwhile, Bishop Guertin comes in below all of those teams because, against the other top teams in Division I, the Cardinals are 0-2 so far. They have a chance to change that Tuesday night against Merrimack, which also looking for its first win against the division's elite.
