Spartans keep cruising toward postseason

The Milford High School boys basketball team continued on its path to a top four seed in the Class I playoffs with a 74-62 win over Bedford Friday night.

The win was the eighth straight for the Spartans (14-1), and their second over the Bulldogs this season. Milford's streak is the third-longest current one in Class I - Oyster River has won nine in a row and Pembroke has 10  straight wins.

Kyle Nelson had 20 points to lead Milford and Mike O'Loughlin continued his hot streak with 15 points. O'Loughlin was coming off a 22-point performance against Souhegan in which had made five 3-pointers and scored all of his points in the first half.

While Souhegan put more points on the board on Friday, the result was the same - a 53-49 loss at Pelham. Sophomore Devin Gilligan bounced back from a tough game against Milford - he was held without a field goal against the Spartans - by scoring 19 points.

The Sabers (9-6) return to Amherst on Tuesday to host Hollis/Brookline, which upset Bow 47-40. The Cavaliers (6-9) got 14 points from Dan Bearthlein, as they kept alive their chance at a Class I playoff spot.

Dimitri and Anthony Floras combined for 33 points in Merrimack's 58-35 win over Concord in Class L action. After losing just their second game of the season on Tuesday to Trinity, the Tomahawks (12-2) are back at the top of the standings with Winacunnet.

Bishop Guertin managed to keep pace with Merrimack, defeating Pinkerton 70-58. Sean McClung scored 25 points for the Cardinals (11-3) and Connor Green added 17 markers.
