South knocks off Alvirne in Game 1 of Chick-fil-A Tournament

NASHUA - Jack Preston led 12 players in scoring as the Nashua High School South boys basketball team defeated Alvirne 57-41 in the opening game of the Chick-fil-A Holiday Tournament Tuesday at Nashua North.

Preston had 11 points and Anthony Muccioli had nine points, all in the first half, as South led 29-13 at halftime. The Broncos got nine points from Jimmy Tomaswick and Matt Flynn added eight markers as Alvirne cut the lead to 37-28 at the end of the third quarter.

But the Panthers outscored the Broncos 20-13 in the fourth quarter to close out the win.

South will take on the winner of Campbell-Moore Catholic at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, while Alvirne will play the loser of that game at 3 p.m. at Nashua North.
