AMHERST - The Souhegan High School girls lacrosse team got offense from Jocelyn Donohue and solid goaltending from Alexa Katsigianis to knock off Pinkerton 12-8 on Tuesday.

Donohue scored six goals for the Sabers (5-1 in Division I) and Katsigianis made 10 saves and led a Souhegan defense that held the Astros (3-1) to two goals in the second half.

Mickenzie Larivee added three goals and an assist for the Sabers while Jamie Wallisch had a goal and three assists. Jesse Jay, Meggie Whitney and Maggie McNary also had a goal apiece.

Pinkerton got three goals and an assist from Vicki Kuhn and two goals and an assist from Clara Fenton. Riann Daziel, Sam Murray and Callie Deluca also each scored a goal.

The Astros took a 1-0 lead early, but it would be their only lead of the game. Souhegan scored the next three goals to take the lead, and after Pinkerton scored to make it 3-2, the Sabers added two more before the Astros took a timeout with 13:54 to play in the first half.

After the timeout, Pinkerton scored three goals to tie the game, but Souhegan went back ahead just 27 seconds later on a goal by Donohue, who added another score a minute after that to make it a 7-5 game. The Astros scored again before halftime to make it a one-goal game at the break.

The Sabers slowly worked the lead up to four goals in the second half, making it an 11-7 game on a goal by Larivee with 9:48 to play. Pinkerton added another goal with just under seven minutes to go, but Souhegan finished out the scoring with 4:42 left and relied on its defense to close the game.

Souhegan returns to action Saturday at Manchester Memorial.
