Skiing Roundup: Keene, Exeter win D1 boys, girls alpine titles

The NHIAA held the division chamionship meets for alpine skiing this week at various locations around the state.

On the boys side, Keene won the Division I title - its first since 2004 - while Kennett won Division II for the seventh time in eight years. Bow won its second straight Division III title and Lin-Wood took Division IV for its first title since 1996.

On the girls side, Exeter won its first title, taking Division I. Kennett won Division II, recapturing the title it lost last year for the first time since 2002. Bishop Brady won the Division III title for the third straight year and Lin-Wood won Division IV for the third time in four years.

Division I boys

Keene topped Exeter by 15 points in the giant slalom and 19 points in the slalom to win the boys alpine title on Tuesday at Sunapee. Concord finished third and Londonderry came in fourth while Pinkerton rounded out the top five. Merrimack was the top local finisher, coming in seventh, while Nashua North was eight and Nashua South came in ninth.

Merrimack's Timothy Perez was the top local finisher in the slalom, taking 14th overall in 76.17. North teammates Nicholas Kwan (79.65) and Spencer Nelson (80.1) were 18th and 19th, respectively. Ryan Page of Merrimack came in 20th in 81.61 and South's Kyle Fredericks took 23rd in 83.23.

Perez was also the top local in the giant slalom with a 24ht-place finish in 68.31. Thomas Lott of North took 30th in 69.89 and Nelson finished 32nd in 70.25. South's Eric Robinson came in 34th in 70.65 and Fredericks was 35th in 70.68.

Division I girls

The Exeter girls finished first in both the slalom and the giant slalom to with the girls alpine title on Monday at Sunapee. Keene was second overall while Pinkerton finished third, Timberlane took fourth and Spaulding was fifth. South was the top local finisher, coming in 11th, while North was 12th and Merrimack came in 13th overall.

Julianne MacDonald of South was the top local in the slalom, finishing 13th overall with combined time of 80.56. Katelyn Ventre of Merrimack finished 21st with a time of 87.05, while South's Hannah Drake was 31st in 89.64.

Nashua North's Hannah Day came in 37th in 92.0 and teammate Samantha Kwan finished 39th in 93.35.

MacDonald was also the top local in the giant slalom, coming in 17th in 72.9, while Drake finished 29th in 74.72. Ventre took 31st in 74.89 and Day was 33rd in 75.15.

Division II boys

Kennett edged Plymouth by 90 points to win the boys alpine title on Tuesday at Waterville Valley, while Bedford came in third and Hollis/Brookline finished fourth. Lebanon took fifth and Souhegan was sixth. Milford finished 12th.

Evan Cooke of H/B was the top local finisher in the slalom, coming fifth in 33.48, and Milford's Ben Lambert took sixth in 33.8. Bedford's Dan Connelly finished 13th with a time of 35.71 and H/B's Patrick Doyle was 15th in 36.27. Souhegan's Trevor Brown was 19th in 36.95.

Lambert finished fifth in the giant slalom, with a time of 69.79, and Cooke was seventh in 70.68. Connelly finished 12th in 72.08 and Souhegan's Scott Doyle took 14th in 73.01, while Bedford's Joe Dorow came in 17th in 73.23.

Division II girls

Kennett took first, finishing 60 points ahead of second-place Plymouth on Thursday at Mount Cranmore. Hanover came in third while Bishop Guertin took fourth and Hollis/Brookline finished fifth. Bedford took sixth and Souhegan was seventh while Milford came in 15th.

Bedford's Jessica Fahey was the top local finisher in the slalom, finishing fourth in 72.99. Brianna Berge (81.04) and Ashley Loughran (83.06) of Bishop Guertin came in 10th and 11th while H/B's Skyler Anderson took 13th in 83.93. Souhegan's Samantha Prue finished 15th in 84.12 and Milford's Rebekah Smith was 55th.

Berge came in sixth in the giant slalom, finishing in 82.96, and Fahey was seventh in 82.99 while Loughran finished ninth in 84.9. Bedford's Lauren Costes took 14th in 87.5 and Anderson (86.0) and Haley Farwell (85.0) of H/B finished 16th and 17th, respectively. Bedford's Kelsey Kennedy took 19th in 91.03 while Prue finished 20th in 91.04 and teammate Anjelica Newell was 21st in 91.94. Milford's Sabrina Strelow was 73rd.

Division III boys

Bow took first place in the boys alpine on Tuesday at Pat's Peak,  finishing ahead of Gilford and Kearsarge. Bishop Brady was fourth and Oyster River rounded out the top five.

Bow's Cali Hatem finished first in the slalom in 69.88 while Gilford's Michael Workman came in second in 69.91. It was Bow's Anders Hanson finishing first in the giant slalom in 80.54 while Workman was second in 80.91.

Division III girls

Bishop Brady finished first on Monday at Pat's Peak, head of second-place Gilford by 31 points. Bow was third followed by Kearsarge in fourth and Oyster River fifth.

Bridget Bryck of Bishop Brady won the slalom, finishing first in 79.21. Gilford's Julie Ostrand came in second in 79.73. Prospect Mountain's Danielle Tidd took first in the giant slalom, coming in in 84.69. Danielle Gould of Bow was second in 85.84.

Division IV boys

Lin-Wood captured the title on Wednesday at Cannon Mountain with a 12-point victory over Hopkinton. Gorham came in third while Derryfield was fourth and Profile fifth.

Bobby Langlands of Gorham finished first in the slalom in 75.89 while Chris Hyland of Lin-Wood took second in 81.85. Langlands also won the giant slalom in 65.28 and Derryfield's Alex Camerino was second in 65.65.

Division IV girls

Lin-Wood topped Profile by one point, 738-737, to take the title on Monday at Loon Mountain. Sunapee finished third while Derryfield was fourth and Gorham took fifth.

Paige Roberts of Profile won the slalom, finishing first in 68.17, and Derryfield's Carla Nyquist took second in 69.04. Lin-Wood's Liza Tetley came in first in the giant slalom in 56.24 while Nyquist finished second in 56.26.
