# Signing up: South's Osgood, others sign football letters of intent to play at next level

As far as signing days go, it was anything but normal, and that was just fine with Max Osgood.

Leading up to Wednesday, which was the first day that high school seniors could sign a national letter of intent to play college football, Osgood wasn't sure what, if anything, was planned.

The Nashua High School South senior had verbally committed to play football at the University of Rhode Island, an FCS program, and asked Nate Mazerolle, the South boys basketball coach and athletic coordinator, if there was anything happening.

That's when Mazerolle came up with an idea. The Panthers were schedule to have a makeup game Wednesday night against Exeter, and since Osgood is a member of the basketball team, why not do something before the game.

Mazerolle and Nashua athletic director Lisa Gingras set up a table in front of the South student section, and Osgood sat with his parents, Jay and Kathy, while Mazerolle said a few words.

"That was awesome," Osgood said. "They've been supporting me through the whole process and they know what's been going on. All the stress is gone. It's such a relief. Getting all the admissions stuff done, my deposit is in, it's just stressful up until now."

Osgood decided on URI after a pair of trips to visit the school, and after getting a home visit from Rams assistant coach Mike Flanagan.

"I fell in love with the coaching staff," Osgood said. "Pretty much after that, I knew I wanted to go there. It felt like it was just a good fit for me.

"I'm going to stay at tight end. That's also one of the things that drew me, because some of the other schools looked at me at tackle. They wanted to keep me at tight end, so I'm excited because that's what I want to play."

Osgood was one of three New Hampshire high school football players to sign with a Division I program, joining [John Stark's Drew McQuarrie](http://www.concordmonitor.com/starksigning-cmsp-020217-7851247?ref=nh-highschoolsports.com) (Boston College) and [Nashua North's Finn Littlefield](http://www.unionleader.com/article/20170201/SPORTS22/170209828/-1/sports22?ref=nh-highschoolsports.com) (Bryant University).
