AMHERST - Terry Dugdale turned in another stellar pitching performance and the Souhegan High School baseball team scratched together just enough offense to knock off Goffstown 5-2 on Monday.

Dugdale went six innings, striking out 13 while allowing one run on five hits. Three times, the Grizzlies put runners on second and third - once with no outs - and all three times, Dugdale got out of the inning.

Nick Hession led the Souhegan offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Kyle Beaulieu also had two hits and Bobby Graham hit a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning.

The Sabers (2-2) also got two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth by playing head's up baseball.

With two out, Beaulieu singled and Tyler Hansis came in as a courtesy runner. Hansis stole second and was still there when Nick Hession blooped a single into center field.

Thinking there was one out Hansis stayed close to second until the ball dropped, but was still able to score when Goffstown (2-3) failed to make a throw home. Hession wound up at second on the play and advanced to third after Tyler Manoogian reached on an error.

Manoogian took a big lead off first base, drawing a throw from pitcher Alex Wageling, and broke for second. Once Manoogian was caught in a rundown, Hession headed for home. Goffstown second baseman Greg Van Horn looked toward the plate, but instead chased after Manoogian, who stayed in the rundown long enough for Hession to score, making it 5-1.

Goffstown got a run in the seventh with one out off Souhegan reliever Robbie McCormick, but McCormick was able to get the final two outs of the inning without further damage.

The Sabers took a 2-0 lead in the first on a walk to Chris Almeida and singles by Matt Schagrin, Beaulieu and Hession, respectively. The Grizzlies got back-to-back singles from Ryan Smith and Justin Macek to open the second inning, and Macek took second without a throw, but Dugdale battled back to strikeout the side and get out of the inning unscathed.

In his last 13 innings, Dugdale has a combined 28 strikeouts and allowed one run on six hits and three walks.
