LACONIA - When Parker Kazanowski picked up a groundball on his side of midfield, the Bow High School senior couldn't have known he was about to score the game-winning goal in Thurdsay's Division III boys lacrosse semifinal.

No less than five Plymouth players were near him as he jogged across midfield with the ball, with coaches from the Bobcats' sideline yelling out that they had numbers while the Bow coaches called for the Falcons to slow things down.

Kazanowski continued a slow jog down the far sideline until he realized there was no one between him and Plymouth goalie Cullen McNair.

“It was a broken play,” Kazanowski said. “I slowed up because of the long pole, but he then shifted over to my buddy. Once he shifted over, I was wide open.”

Kazanowski outran Plymouth's Brodie Trusock, who was coming down the middle of the field, to the crease and bounced a shot past McNair. The goal gave No. 2 Bow a 6-5 lead in what would turn into an 8-5 win over No. 3 Plymouth at Bank of NH Stadium in Laconia.

“Are you going to push the fast break? Are you going to try to slow it down and get your guys on?” Kazanowski said of the decision to go for the goal. “It’s all about numbers and what the defense gives you. If they give you the green light, you’ve got to take it.”

Bow senior Sam Bennett was one of those players about to come into the game and he watched everything unfold from the subsitution box.

“I saw him come to his left,” Bennett said. “He likes that sneaky little, like kind of a twister action, and puts it low. He goes hard to the cage and that’s all you can ask for. It was a great energy goal.”

The goal broke a 5-5 tie with 6:39 left in the third quarter after neither team could get much going offensively after halftime. Bow took that one-goal lead into the fourth quarter and it took more than 12 minutes for the Falcons to add to it.

With under six minutes remaining, Bennett weaved his way through the Plymouth defense, switching from his right hand to his left and back, to score with 5:54 remaining to put the Falcons up 7-5.

“I’m a righty, but sometimes, I’ll swim to my left and there’s a little bit of space,” Bennett said. “We’re only up one. We need a big one. It was good to be able to put that one in, get everyone hyped.”

Nikolas Mallios added an insurance goal with 3:54 remaining when McNair came out of the crease to play the junior and he was able to get a shot on the empty goal.

As much as Bow was looking to build on its lead throughout the fourth quarter, it was playing well enough defensively to make it feel like the Falcons were up more than a goal.

“It’s full(-field) defense,” Bow coach Tucker Johnson said. “The attack guys play defense, too, and they’ve all really bought into full-field lacrosse. If we can make them make some mistakes in the field, we can get a couple of extra possessions.”

Those extra possessions come from doing the little things, which the Falcons realize are important, especially this time of year.

“Everything counts, from groundballs to faceoffs, one-on-one defense to maybe playing zone,” Bennett said. “Our defense just played lights out. Everything they did we’ve been working for, we do in practice, so really proud of those guys.”

Bow will be looking to win its first title Saturday since capturing the Division II crown in 2010, capping the second of its two three-peats. The Falcons take on No. 1 Coe-Brown at 5 p.m. Saturday in Laconia in the D3 championship game.
