Portsmouth ties national record for consecutive wins

The Portsmouth High School baseball team defeated Sanborn Monday to win its 75th straight game and tie the national record for wins in a row.

The Clippers took a rain-shortened game 2-0 over the Indians to improve to 12-0 in Division II this season. Keegan Taylor got the win for Portsmouth, going five innings and striking out nine.

Portsmouth hasn't lost a game since 2007, when it was upset by Hollis/Brookline in the Class I quarterfinals. The record was set in 2005 by Homer (Mich.), which had its streak snapped in the championship game. That streak took just over two years to compile.

The Clippers will go for the record - weather permitting - Wednesday at Pembroke (7-5).
