Plymouth's Macomber named New Hampshire's Gatorade Football Player of the Year

Garrett Macomber, of Plymouth High School, has been named the 2016 Gatorade Football Player of the Year from New Hampshire after helping the Bobcats win the Division II championship last month.

The junior led Plymouth to a 10-2 record, rushing for 2,373 yards and 26 touchdowns, while also playing a big role on defense for the Bobcats.

Macomber scored the game-winning touchdown on a 15-yard reception in Plymouth's win over Bow in the championship game, and also blocked what would have been a game-winning field goal in the Bobcats' semifinal upset of Windham.

"Without Macomber, Plymouth does not make the state championship game," Kingswood coach Justin Leonard said. "You know he's getting the ball, you know what play it is and you just can't stop him."

Macomber is the second player from Plymouth to win the award, joining Mike Boyle, who won in 2003. He's also the first player from a Division II team to win the award since Souhegan's Sean Jellison in 2005.
