LACONIA — The Plymouth Regional High School boys lacrosse team was well aware of the task in front of it in the Division III championship game.

But after overcoming an early deficit in the Division III semifinals a few days earlier, the Bobcats weren’t going to waste any time in the championship battle against Coe-Brown Northwood Academy at Laconia High School on Saturday.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first minute and a half and they never trailed the rest of the way, knocking off the Bears by a 7-5 score to claim the program’s first-ever D3 championship.

“These kids do not quit, they give everything they have,” said veteran Plymouth coach Glenn Mausolf. “We came into (Saturday) as underdogs and knowing we were playing an outstanding opponent. They knew it would take their best and they were up for the challenge."

“They just had energy (Saturday) and it really showed in the 50-50 balls,” said Coe-Brown coach Tony DePalma. “That really showed in key moments of the game. The credit goes to them.”

Plymouth made it known they weren’t going to go quietly in the night in the face of an undefeated opponent, as Luke Legacy scored just 33 seconds into the game and teammate Peyton Long scored less than a minute later and with 10:31 to go in the first quarter, Plymouth was on top 2-0.

Ryan Rodler got the Bears on the board with 9:07 to go in the first, but the Bobcats answered, with Nolan Galvin finishing off a feed from Legacy for the 3-1 lead. Coe-Brown kept the frenetic pace up, scoring less than a minute later, with Liam White finding the back of the net to make it 3-2.

The Bears had a good chance to pull even and take the lead, as they got a two-man advantage for 30 seconds and then a one-man advantage for another 30 seconds, but the Bobcats handled things (and a ball off the post helped as well) and the first quarter ended with Plymouth up by the 3-2 score.

Galvin picked up his second goal of the game just 2:12 into the second quarter for the 4-2 lead. Coe-Brown scored the only other goal of the quarter, tickling the twine with 4:07 to go, with Glenn Papineau doing the honors and the Bobcats held on to the 4-3 lead at the break.

The two teams exchanged early goals in the third quarter, with Galvin delivering his third goal for the Bobcats and Rodler adding his second for the Bears within a 38-second gap in the third quarter and those were the only two goals scored in the frame as Plymouth took the 5-4 lead to the fourth quarter.

The Bobcats did, however, have to play the last quarter and a half without Legacy, who went down with a non-contact knee injury with just more than four minutes to go in the third quarter, leaving a huge hole in the Plymouth offensive attack.

Coe-Brown came charging out of the gate in the fourth quarter, sending shot after shot wide of Plymouth goalie Cullen McNair until it finally capitalized with 8:50 to go when Gilbert Bean pulled the Bears even at five.

Just more than three minutes later, the Bobcats found their answer, with Eli Ibarguen putting in what would end up being the game-winning goal with 5:38 to go in the game. The Bobcats then got a little insurance with 2:53 to go, as Galvin scored his fourth goal off an assist from Ibarguen and the Bobcats defense and McNair held tight the rest of the way to give the Bobcats the Division III title.
