Playoff roundup: Souhegan, Lebanon to meet again

The Souhegan and Lebanon high school girls basketball teams will once again meet in the Division II postseason at Southern New Hampshire University.

The No. 6 Sabers and No. 2 Raiders will face off in the semifinals on Monday after both won in the quarterfinals Friday. Souhegan defeated Lebanon to win the division title last season.

The Sabers went on the road Friday night to knock off No. 3 Merrimack Valley 55-45. Jane White had 20 points to lead Souhegan (16-4) while Mickenzie Larivee had 10 points.

The Raiders (19-1) turned in another route, beating No. 7 Portsmouth (15-5) 64-32 in the quarterfinals. Lebanon also won its preliminary round game over No. 15 Kingswood by 43 points. Moriah Morton had 16 points and Colleen Taylor added 14 for Lebanon.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 5 Kearsarge upset No. 4 Coe-Brown 47-44 to advance to the semifinals. Coe-Brown rallied from a 13-point deficit to start the fourth quarter, but a last-second shot came up short.

Kearsarge will face No. 9 Windham, which upset No. 1 Hollis Brookline, in the second semifinal game on Monday. Souhegan and Lebanon will tip off at 5:30 p.m.

Division I

After two weather delays and a slow start, No. 8 Keene (10-9) knocked off No. 9 Nashua South (8-11) 47-43 in the preliminary round of the girls basketball tournament. The Blackbirds scored just three points in the first quarter, but outscored the Panthers 30-17 in the second half.

Keene will have to turn around quickly, as it will play at No. 1 Bishop Guertin in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Girls hockey

No. 5 Bishop Guertin saw its season come to an end in the Division I quarterfinals on Friday, as the Cardinals lost to No. Concord 2-1 in overtime. Erin Mullen scored a shorthanded goal for Concord with 73 seconds left in regulation and Annie Mullen, Erin's sister, scored the game-winner just over five minutes in the extra session.

BG's Sabrina Dobbins made 42 saves in the loss while Meghan Nannan gave the Cardinals (9-8) a 1-0 lead in the second period.

Concord moves on to face No. 1 Lebanon in the semifinals Tuesday at Everett Arena. The other semifinal will feature No. 3 Oyster River, which knocked off No. 6 St. Thomas-Dover, and No. 2 Hanover.
