Who would win in a true state tournament? This girls lacrosse regular season is providing a piece of an answer to that question. There have been 10 games this season between teams from different divisions, and the results have been interesting. Of those 10 games, the team from the lower division has won five of them, and the games have been decided by an average of 6.8 goals. That number is slightly skewed thanks to a 17-goal win by Kearsarge over Merrimack Valley. Also included in those results are Winnacunnet's win over Bedford, which is the Bulldogs only loss this season, and Laconia's win over Hanover. The Sachems won that game by five goals over the Marauders, who also have a four-goal loss against Bishop Guertin, the only undefeated team in Division I. Would Laconia be able to give the Cardinals a game? That part of the question won't be answered. ### Division I The top eight teams in the division advance to the quarterfinals. 1. Bishop Guertin (11-0) 2. Bedford (9-1) 3. Souhegan (8-1) 4. Pinkerton (8-2) 5. Londonderry (5-3) 6. Merrimack (6-4) 7. Exeter (5-6) 8. Nashua North (5-6) **Quarterfinal matchups** - No. 8 Nashua North (5-6) at No. 1 Bishop Guertin (11-0) - No. 5 Londonderry (5-3) at No. 4 Pinkerton (8-2) - No. 7 Exeter (5-6) at No. 2 Bedford (9-1) - No. 6 Merrimack (6-4) at No. 3 Souhegan (8-1) The big showdowns begin on Wednesday, as Bishop Guertin travels to Pinkerton. Three of the Cardinals' remaining six games are against the Astros, Bedford and Souhegan, while the Bulldogs and Sabers will play on May 24. Souhegan's only loss this year has been to Needham (Mass.), ranked No. 3 in the state in the most recent ESPNBoston poll and No. 2 by LaxPower. The Sabers will also host Norwell (Mass.), ranked No. 8 and 5, respectively, on Saturday. Those two out-of-state games could end up costing Souhegan, which has been the No. 1 seed in the division in each of the last three seasons. ### Division II The top eight teams in the division advance to the quarterfinals. 1. Windham (7-1) 2. Winnacunnet (7-2) 3. Portsmouth (7-2) 4. Hanover (5-3) 5. Kingswood (4-3) 6. John Stark (3-3) 7. Timberlane (3-4) 8. Goffstown (3-4) **Quarterfinal matchups** - No. 8 Goffstown (3-4) at No. 1 Windham (7-1) - No. 5 Kingswood (4-3) at No. 4 Hanover (5-3) - No. 7 Timberlane (3-4) at No. 2 Winnacunnet (7-2) - No. 6 John Stark (3-3) at No. 3 Portsmouth (7-2) Two of those previously mention non-division games come into play in this week's standings. Winnacunnet, despite losing the first head-to-head matchup with Protsmouth this season, holds onto the No. 2 spot because of that win over D1 Bedford. The win against a higher division gives the Warriors a better rating, but that could change, as they will play the Clippers against on Wednesday. Timberlane holds the seventh spot over Goffstown for the moment, thanks to a win over D1 Dover. Those teams will also play in Plaistow on Wednesday, and will have a rematch on May 24 in Goffstown. ### Division III The top eight teams in the division advance to the quarterfinals. 1. Laconia (7-0) 2. Derryfield (7-1) 3. Kearsarge (6-2) 4. St. Thomas (7-2) 5. Pelham (7-2) 6. Bow (4-2) 7. Lebanon (4-2) 8. Oyster River (5-3) **Quarterfinal matchups** - No. 8 Oyster River (5-3) at No. 1 Laconia (7-0) - No. 5 Pelham (7-2) at No. 4 St. Thomas (7-2) - No. 7 Lebanon (4-2) at No. 2 Derryfield (7-1) - No. 6 Bow (4-2) at No. 3 Kearsarge (6-2) The top three teams fall into place, for now, but that could change with Laconia play at St. Thomas, Pelham and Londonderry this week. The Sachems also still have to host Derryfield on May 23. St. Thomas is coming off a six-goal loss to Bishop Guertin on Saturday, and the Saints other loss was a nine-goal defeat against Derryfield on April 15\. Meanwhile, Pelham is 7-0 against non-playoff teams and 0-2 against Derryfield and St. Thomas, losing those games by an average of 13.5 goals.
