Moments before taking the field Saturday for the second half, someone on the Souhegan High School football team's sideline announced what was at stake for the Sabers.

"This is for playoffs!" that person shouted as Souhegan's game against Pelham resumed, and whoever it was, he was right.

Since the NHIAA restructured the Division II playoffs in 2015 so that the top eight teams, according to football rating, made the postseason, only one team with four losses has advanced. Going into Saturday's game at 2-3, another loss wouldn't have necessarily ended Souhegan's chances, but it would have made things a whole lot tougher.

Things don't get easier this week for the Sabers, as they host Hollis Brookline, which looked like it was cruising until getting run over by Pelham two weeks ago.

Souhegan isn't the only contender that faces a tough stretch coming up.

Alvirne goes to John Stark this week before finish the season at home against Hollis Brookline and Milford. Hanover hosts Bow Friday and then goes to John Stark before hosting Plymouth in the regular-season finale that could determine the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

Here’s what the D2 postseason would look like if it started this week.
