Playoff Picture: Division II football

There are a handful of big games on the schedule this week in Division II, as several teams either try to solidify their postseason hopes, or just keep them alive. Here’s a look at how Division II stands with two weeks to go.

Windham could be celebrating a spot in the South Conference final if it beats Milford on Friday.

Note: Unlike Division I, first tiebreakers in D2 are determined based on rating, rather than head-to-head competition.

East Conference

St. Thomas (6-1, 11.71)
Merrimack Valley (4-2, 9.67)
Kingswood (2-4, 4.00)
Pembroke (2-5, 3.14)
Manchester West (1-5, 2.o0)

If the conference title game was this week: Merrimack Valley at St. Thomas. The Saints, who are off this week, have all but wrapped up the top spot in the conference, while Merrimack Valley would likely claim the other spot with a win over Plymouth and a loss by Kingswood to Manchester West.

North Conference

Kennett (6-0, 14.67)
Lebanon (4-2, 9.33)
Laconia (4-2, 9.00)
Kearsarge (3-3, 6.33)
Plymouth (2-4, 5.67)
Hanover (1-5, 2.33)

If the conference title game was this week: Lebanon at Kennett. Despite losing to the Eagle by 32 points at home last week, Lebanon still holds the upper hand on Laconia thanks to a higher rating and head-to-head win. Kennett would take control of the conference with a win over Laconia this week.

South Conference

Windham (6-0, 15.67)
Milford (4-2, 10.33)
Trinity (4-2, 9.67)
Souhegan (3-3, 7.33)
Pelham (2-4, 4.33)

If the conference title game was this week: Milford at Windham. In order to make that game happen, Milford needs to beat Windham when it hosts the Jaguars on Friday. A loss in that game for the Spartans would mean Trinity would move ahead with wins at Hanover and at St. Thomas in its final two games. Both teams will also be keeping an eye out on what their non-common opponents are doing, as a win by a team Milford or Trinity has defeated helps improve the rating.

West Conference

Sanborn (3-3, 7.00)
Hollis Brookline (3-4, 6.57)
Monadnock (2-4, 4.33)
John Stark (2-5, 3.71)
ConVal (1-5, 2.67)

If the conference title game was this week: Hollis Brookline at Sanborn. The Indians move back into the top spot in the conference after a win over Monadnock last Friday, and Hollis Brookline's loss against ConVal, which won for the first time since Oct. 26, 2012. Sanborn can likely solidify a spot with a win over Pelham this week, while HB and Monadnock will meet in Hollis on Saturday.
