Pinkerton wins first boys track title in 18 years

The Pinkerton High School boys track team didn't take win a lot of events during Friday's Division I championship meet, but the Astros were still able to win their first outdoor track title since 1994.

The Astros finished first with 67 points, nine ahead of last year's champion, Nashua North, which finished with 58. Londonderry was third with 47.33 points and Salem took fourth with 47. Merrimack rounded out the top five with 45.33 points.

Pinkerton was able to win despite finishing first in just two events, and placing in just one field event.

Chris Poggi won the 800-meter run (1 minute, 55.25 seconds) and the Astros' 4x400 relay team came in first as well (3:27.87). Pinkerton also got second places from Chris DeCarlo (200), Connor Kwiecien (400) and the 4x100 relay team, while Emmitt Smith was third in the 100, John Keisling was third in the 400 and Anthony Anzivino was third in the 3,200. Mark Franklin placed fifth in the high jump, while the 4x800 relay came in fifth and Chip Sullivan was sixth in the 200.

Mike Lynch was a double winner for North, taking first in the shot put (50-feet, 10.75 inches) and the discus (143-11). Devin Motivala also won the 1,600 (4:21.38) and came in fifth in the 3,200 while Zakari Jenkins finished third in the 200 and the 4x100 relay team placed third. Deric Wagner took fourth in the shot put and fifth in the discus and the Titans got fourth places from Andrew Dwyer (110 hurdles) and Samson Horne (triple jump).

Merrimack's 4x100 relay team finished first in a time of 43.94 and the Tomahawks got two second places - Julian Dano was second in the 100 and Devin Martin took second in the long jump. Chaz Myers was fifth in the 200 and sixth in the 100 while Alex Doyle placed third in the 110 hurdles. Merrimack finished third in the 4x800 while John Conlin took fourth in the 800 and Jared Peabody tied for sixth in the high jump.

Nashua South finished seventh overall with 37 points, thanks to a strong performance from Kevin Shea. The senior took first in the high jump (6-6) and the triple jump (43-1.75) while taking second in the 110 hurdles and sixth in the 300 hurdles. CJ Vallie finished third in the pole vault and Connor Rogowsky was sixth in the same event. The Panthers also got a sixth place in the 4x400 relay.

Bishop Guertin recorded 30 points to finish 10th overall. Kent Horsley finished second in the 800 while Griffin Gagnon took second in the 1,600 and Chris Cogliano was second in the same event. The Cardinals got a third place in the 4x400 relay and Brody Smith took fifth in the long jump.

Alvirne picked up 14 points to come in 15th, and Ethan Boucher took first in the 300 hurdles, finishing in 41.56, while Aaron Bellomo was fourth in the 1,600.

Salem had four first places, led by Jerickson Fedrick, who finished first in the 100 (10.95) and the 200 (22.28). Eric Tahtamoni came in first in the 400 (49.4) and Alex Magoon took the javelin with a throw of 168-5.

Londonderry got two first places, as Michael Whelton came in first in the pole vault (11-6) and the Lancers took first in the 4x800 relay (8:05.13).

Concord's George Feliz won the 110 hurdles, finishing in 15.36, while Manchester Central's Dylan Lafond placed first in the 3,200 (9:15.63). Somersworth's Zach Hill came in first in the long jump (21-6.5).
