For the first time since 2012, the Pinkerton Academy field hockey team is the Division I champion, and for the first time, the Astros finish the year as the top team in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll.

Pinkerton received five first-place votes to take the top spot after beating previous-No. 1 Winnacunnet, 3-2, in the D1 championship on Saturday. Souhegan got three first-place votes to come in at No. 2 after winning back-to-back titles by beating Bow, 2-1, in the D2 championship.

The Warriors dropped to No. 3 in the final poll after spending the five previous weeks in the top spot. The Falcons moved up a spot to finish at No. 4, their highest ranking of the season.

Keene, which lost to Pinkerton in the D1 semifinals, rounded out the top five, while Bedford, which fell in the D1 semifinals to Winnacunnet, remained at No. 6\.

Hanover moved up a spot to No. 7, following a semifinal loss to Bow in D2, while Kearsarge and Gilford came in at Nos. 8 and 9, respectively. The Cougars beat the Golden Eagles in the D3 final, their first title since 1980\.

Merrimack, which lost to Bedford in the D1 quarterfinals, rounded out the top 10\.
