The field hockey regular season gets underway with a pair of traditional Division I powers at the top of the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll.
Pinkerton sits in the top spot in the preseason poll, the first time the Astros have claimed that position in the poll's history, while Winnacunnet comes in right behind them at No. 2.
Five teams received at least one first-place vote, with Souhegan, which is No. 3 in the poll, getting the most with four. Winnacunnet had three first-place votes while Pinkerton, Bedford and Londonderry each received one.
The Sabers, who are the defending Division II champs, claimed their highest ranking in the poll, while Keene, last year's runner-up in D1, came in fourth.
Bedford, which won its first D1 title last fall, rounded out the top five, and Londonderry took sixth. After finishing as the runner-up in D2, Bow opens the year at No. 7 while Dover comes in at No. 8.
Bishop Guertin starts the year at No. 9 and John Stark comes in at No. 10.
Ten other teams also received a vote in the preseason poll.

The coaches poll is voted on by field hockey coaches from around the state and members of the media. The next poll will be out on Sept. 8 and will be updated every Monday throughout the regular season.
