And sure enough, the Astros did. After the Bulldogs erased a two-goal deficit early in the second period, Pinkerton's Ethan Burgess scored on the power play with 7:03 left in the frame, and the Astros made the goal stand for a 3-2 win that handed Bedford its first loss of the season. The win moves Pinkerton to the top of the Division I standings. "Our guys have a ton of character," Littlefield said. "We’re fortunate, we play three strong lines and that gives us a lot of depth, even if we only roll two. It tells us our guys are never going to give up on a game, so they’re always going to work for a win." Hunter and Mason Drouin also scored a goal each in the game's first five minutes, giving Pinkerton (10-1) all the early momentum, while Bedford appeared to be going through some undisclosed team issues. Just seven players participated in warmups for the Bulldogs and were on the ice for player introductions and the national anthem. None of the players who were on the bench for the pregame appeared to take a shift until after the five-minute mark. Bedford coach Marty Myers was unavailable for comment after the game. "I can’t say anything about that," Bedford senior Jack Sylvain, who started the game, said. "We have this feeling on the bench, everyone is going to give everything for each other. We’re all there for each other, but we just couldn’t get it at the end." Jonathan Giroux and William Scott scored 2:55 apart early in the second period to erase Pinkerton's lead, and it looked like the Bulldogs (8-1-1) might jump in front, but had a shot hit the post moments later. But Giroux went to the box for a trip, giving Pinkerton its first power play of the game, and a minute later, Burgess beat Bedford goalie Shea Guimont for a 3-2 lead. "We know the momentum shifts on that next goal and whoever gets it could very well win the game," Littlefield said. "It doesn’t mean the game is over, but it puts the other team behind with some tough choices. You start thinking strategy and fortunately they had to and not us." Hunter Drouin started the scoring just 1:24 into the game when he deflected Jack Normand's shot from the blue line past Guimont. Less than two minutes later, Mason Droiun got a stride behind the Bedford defense and made it 2-0 just 4:08 into the game. Momentum started to swing Bedford's way late in the period, when Normand was given a five-minute penalty for contact to the head, and with 10 seconds left in the first, Ethan Livingston was called for a trip. The two-man advantage would carry into the second, and Giroux capitalized in the final 30 seconds of the 5-on-3 power play. Scott then took advantage of a misplayed puck in front of the Pinkerton goal to tie the game at 2, until Burgess put the Astros back on top for good. "I tell him every time, he gets that shot in the slot, he’s got to take it," Littlefield said of Burgess. "He’s got a great shot and he’s quick, he knows what to do with the puck. It was the perfect finish for him." The teams traded chances in the third period, with Pinkerton goalie Dakota Robinson making a save with the toe of his skate on a breakaway by Bedford's Jake Sanclemente. At the other end, Guimont got a piece of a shot by Joseph Marra, but the puck landed in the crease and started to slide toward the goal before Quinn Hutchins came in and cleared it. With about four minutes left, Robinson made a pad save on a breakaway by Bedford's Parker Roberto to keep Pinkerton in front. "That was a big third period," Robinson said. "All the boys showed up. I think if we come out like that every game, we’re going to win a lot more games. It feels good and it’s a fun game to play. I like playing in big games, especially because the more hype around it." Both teams return to action on Wednesday, as Pinkerton hosts Bishop Guertin at 8:25 p.m., and Bedford travels to Concord for a 5:30 p.m. start.
