Voters in Hooksett turned out Tuesday to say no to a plan to send the town's high school students to Pinkerton Academy, rather than Manchester schools.
Voters in Hooksett turned out Tuesday to say no to a plan to send the town's high school students to Pinkerton Academy, rather than Manchester schools.
The article, which proposed a 10-year contract with Pinkerton put together by the school board, was voted down by a count of 1,026-792, meaning the board will have to come up with another plan, starting with the 2015-16 school year. Next year, a total of 110 students, all current eighth graders from Hooksett, will attend Pinkerton.
Pinkerton is already the largest school in the state, with an enrollment of 3,168 students, according to the NHIAA. The next largest school is Manchester Central, which currently has a large number of student from Hooksett, with 2,324 students.
A number of Hooksett's best athletes have gone to Central over the years, including former Boston College basketball player Tyler Roche, who led the Little Green boys basketball team to its last title in 2006.
