# Panthers try to bounce back against Red Raiders

If something could have gone wrong for the Nashua High School South football team in the second half of last week's 56-14 loss to Pinkerton Academy, it did.

But the good news for the Panthers was this: all of their problems are correctable.

"We just didn’t get it done," South coach Scott Knight said. "A lot of the stuff we saw on film was real fixable. We weren’t getting annihilated up front. If a team lines up and runs at you, and the guys are on their backs, it’s not real fixable. Some of the things we saw, maybe we can take away. We’re a little down after the loss, but it’s not like abandon ship. We know we can be better."

And there's some more good news for the Panthers. With this week's game on Saturday, they'll have another day to get healthy for a game against Lowell that won't count in the Division I standings. South will host Lowell at 1 p.m. at Stellos Stadium.

"This is a good week for this game," Knight said. "We’ve got guys banged up. It’s a good week to regroup without a lot of risk."

Two players South is hoping to have back at full strength are running backs Derek Paradis and Armond McRae. The two weren't on the field together much during last week's loss to Pinkerton due injuries and illness, and that really hurt the Panthers.

"We never had our big guns on the field and in a game like that, you need your guns," Knight said. "We weren’t stopping them defensively, so we needed to score, and it’s tough to score when your guns are on the bench."

South will likely need all its weapons against the Red Raiders. A year ago, Lowell led 20-17 late in the first half before outscoring South 20-0 the rest of the way. While the Raiders have made changes that include bringing in a new coach, they're still a dangerous team.

"They threw silly on us and we couldn’t stop them," Knight said. "We weren’t prepared for their tempo. Same quarterback, a nice little tailback and a real good receiver. Defensively, they fly around. They’re not physically a big team. We match up with them well."

While some saw last week's game as a big one in the state this season, Knight never felt like it was a must-win for his team. If anything, the loss to Pinkerton gives the Panthers plenty of time to prepare, and fix, for the rest of the season.

"I think for it to happen in Week 2 was probably better," Knight said. "It gave our guys a look in the mirror. Let’s regroup and reassess some things. Now we know that we have some things to work on."
