There are a few familiar faces gone from the Nashua High School North girls indoor track team.

The Titans graduated 10 seniors from last year’s group that finished tied for sixth in Class L, including all-around athlete Ivy Muchuma, who won the shot put and scored 14 of North’s 23 points.

North is also without head coach Russ Cardin, who is taking the indoor season off for personal reasons and will be back for the outdoor season.

Stepping in to lead North is Michelle Marquis, Cardin’s assistant during the indoor season and the girls cross country coach in the fall.

While the Titans are young this season, they do return a handful of athletes who competed in last year’s Class L championship and will have a shot at making some noise at the renamed Division I meet this winter.

Junior Tatiana Escalante returns after qualifying for the class meet in the 55-meter dash as a sophomore. With Escalante back, Marquis expects the Titans to be strong in both the 55 and the 300.

Jen Gagnon, a senior, finished sixth in the shot put a year ago and returns along with thrower Lauren Kirby to give North two potential scorers in the event. Junior Keilah Ireland qualified for the class meet a year ago in the high jump and Marquis expects her to do the same this season.

“Those are the areas we’ll be strongest in,” Marquis said. “You can do a lot with a few. That’s where we did get our points last year. Hopefully that’s where we can get some points this year.”

The Titans open the season Saturday at Dartmouth College.
