# North boys, BG girls crowned D1 track champions

MERRIMACK - The city of Nashua has a pair of high school track champions after the Nashua North boys and the Bishop Guertin girls both won the Division I meet Friday at Merrimack High School.

North took the boys crown by winning seven events on the way to 85 total points, 18 better than Nashua South and Bishop Guertin, which tied for second with 67 points. Finishing fourth was Exeter with 49 points while Pinkerton was fifth with 45 points. Merrimack came in ninth with 28 points while Alvirne was 17th with three points.

The Bishop Guertin girls recorded 94 points to beat second-place Exeter by 21 to win its first outdoor title in two years, something that the Cardinals' seniors were aiming for after taking second last year. Londonderry was third with 62 points and Pinkerton fourth with 58\. Salem came in fifth at 45 points and Nashua South (27) was ninth. Alvirne (7) tied Dover for 13th, North (6.5) was 14th and Merrimack (6) came in 15th.

On the boys side, North's Andre Williams took first in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes, ran the anchor leg of the winning 4x100 relay team and was second in the long jump. Eric Muite came in first in both the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles, while Kirk Liberty won the pole vault and Samson Horne took the triple jump title. Jahmar Gathright was third in the long jump and Tim Coy took sixth in the shot put to account for all of the Titans' points.

Aaron Martin won the 800 for South, which also got a strong performance from sprinters Shawn DeCost, Armond McRae, Nilsson Basora and Ray Ramos to take second place overall.

Jeff LaCoste was a winner for Bishop Guertin in both the 1,600 and the 3,200 and the Cardinals also won the 4x400 relay.

The Bishop Guertin girls got a big day out of Betsy Garnick, who won the 100 hurdles (setting a division record), was second in the 300 hurdles, placed fourth in the long jump and helped the 4x100 relay team place third. Cecilia Barowski also had a big day, winning the 400, placing fourth in the 800 and helping the Cardinals win the 4x400 relay in a division-record time.

Bishop Guertin's Molly McCabe took first in the 800 and Jacklyn Dubois (shot put) and Melissa LaCoste (high jump) both finished second in their events.

Arashana Yanes scored 26 of the South girls' 27 points, taking first in the 100 and second in the 200 and long jump.
