But one recent graduate has been keeping himself busy on the field since the Panthers wrapped things up for the spring. Severen Johnson, who graduated from South earlier this month, saw his teammates finish the season on May 24, but that weekend, he made the trip down to the Philadelphia area to take part in the Heritage Cup as a member of Team Ireland's U-19 squad. And Johnson will get one more game as a high schooler on Saturday, as he and the rest of Team New Hampshire take on Vermont in the annual Hanover Lions "Byrne Cup" Twin State game. The boys senior all-star game takes place at 3 p.m. at Hanover High School, following the girls game, which begins at 12:30 p.m. "I’d been hoping to play in the Twin State Game since freshman year," Johnson said. "Back then, I had a teammate, Drew Fleury, one of the best guys I’ve played with, who was in it. I felt like I could play in it and be in the conversation as one of the better kids in New Hampshire." While getting on the Twin State roster was a goal, playing for Team Ireland was a bit more of a surprise. "Team Ireland emailed me, said they were looking for players and asked for film," Johnson said. "I’m not sure how they found out about me. I knew about (the Heritage Cup), but it surprised me." The Heritage Cup matches players from around the United States, with each representing a team of their heritage. For this year, the divisions were broken down into U-13, U-15, U-19 and Mens, and for the first time, there was also a Womens division. Games were held at Haverford (Penn.) College, coinciding with the NCCA Men's Lacrosse Championships, so that players from the Heritage Cup could also watch the college tournament games. "It felt so cool to be a part of it, so cool to win something like that," Johnson said. "It was probably some of the best lacrosse players I’ve played against and with. Playing against them was surreal." Team Ireland defeated Team Puerto Rico (Red) to win the U-19 division. Johnson, who will continue playing lacrosse next year at Tiffin University in Ohio, is hoping for a similar result Saturday. "I feel like we should beat Vermont," he said. "I’m looking forward to playing with everyone.
