NASHUA - Ciki McIntire just wanted to see the Nashua High School South girls lacrosse team settle down.

With Friday's game being a regular-season finale against Nashua North, the two teams held a joint senior night before the start, and the frenzy that came with it carried over into the game for the Panthers.

The Titans got out to a four-goal in the first half and led by two at halftime, but it was South that controlled the second half, as the Panthers rallied for a 13-10 win over North in Division I action at Stellos Stadium.

Kirsten McIntire led the Panthers (8-8) with five goals and two assists while Liz Harrington added three goals and an assist and Bailey Morin scored twice. Abbey Rowe made nine saves, including a few key ones in the second half, while Emma Murphy (assist), Laura Galvez and Sara Signorello also scored.

"We’ve been working on settling on offense and we came out so frantic," Ciki McIntire said. "I think we turned the ball over every single time we had it and North was playing really good pressure defense. We weren’t playing our game. We talked about settling and playing team defense. We were trying to do too many things individually. When we start playing together, that’s when we start playing better."

North (5-11) got out to a 5-1 lead midway through the first half behind Danielle Upton (assist) and Campbell Haller, both of whom finished with four goals. South started to chip away at the lead after that, but it was still a 7-4 game in the final minute of the half, when Morin scored with 20.2 seconds left to cut the lead to two.

The Panthers got goals from Signorello and Harrington to open the second half and tie the game. Haller would give the Titans an 8-7 lead moments later, but it was the last one North would have.

"I think they played their hardest," North coach Chloe Audesse said. "They made some mistakes on offense, once we got down on the offensive end, but our transition looked amazing. I’d have loved to have win. We lost by nine the first time, so we came back and showed what we can do."

After Haller gave North the lead, Kirsten McIntire scored back-to-back goals 41 seconds apart to put South in front for the first time, and Harrington tacked on another goal to make it 10-8 Panthers with 13:34 remaining.

But the Titans weren't done. North cut the lead in half when a pass from behind the cage by Hannah Fortin hit a defender and went in the net. Upton then scored with 7:23 remaining to tie the game at 10 and South took a timeout about a minute after the goal.

Whatever the Panthers drew up in the break worked, as Kirsten McIntire found the back of the net 30 seconds later to give South a lead it wouldn't give up.

"We’ve been talking all season about not hanging our heads, the body language, the positivity, doesn’t matter what the score is, we keep fighting," Ciki McIntire said. "It was nice to see them take that and really put it into action and not give up."

Morin and Murphy added goals in the final five minutes to make it a three-goal game and send South into the playoffs on a positive note. The Panthers will be the No. 7 seed and will play at Souhegan in the Division I quarterfinals on Wednesday.

"So proud of where the girls have brought the program," Ciki McIntire said. "Their hard work, and everyone is going to keep working. We didn’t play well last game (against Souhegan). Hopefully, we can play a little tougher."

North went into the week knowing it likely needed to win all three of its final games - against Merrimack, Concord and South - and get some help in order to reach the playoffs. The Titans lost to Merrimack 19-11 on Monday, but stayed alive with an 18-9 win over Concord on Thursday.

With a win against the Panthers, the Titans would have had a chance, but they were eliminated when Londonderry beat Salem earlier in the day.

"Last year, we played Concord and lost by more than 10," Audesse said. "And even against Merrimack, we’ve never competed against Merrimack the way we did, when we were down by one with 15 minutes left. I think they really showed themselves."
