Nashua South football runs to victory over Merrimack

MERRIMACK - The Nashua High School South football team defeated Merrimack 47-28 in their Friday night contest.

With the win, the Panthers' record improves to 3-1, while Merrimack has dropped two straight, and fell to 2-2 on the season.

South relied heavily on the legs of its backfield to carry them to victory. Junior Jason Compoh and sophomore Joshua Compoh were the one-two punch that made a massive difference in the contest. The Compohs made huge impacts on offense, defense and even special teams.

On offense, Jason Compoh picked up over 200 yards on the ground and two touchdowns, while Joshua Compoh added an additional two rushing touchdowns of his own.

The two were big on defense, as Jason Compoh was able to split the offensive line and bring down the quarterback a few times for the sack. Joshua Compoh made his presence felt with a late game interception as well. The two boys led their team to a strong performance and victory.

The Tomahawks had a strong performance from senior tight end Jared Dyer, who was able to pound his way into the end zone on the ground for Merrimack’s second touchdown of the night.

Also, later in the game when the score was still within reach for Merrimack, Dyer caught and ran over 40 yards for the touchdown. His presence was felt on offense, but ultimately, it wasn’t enough for the Tomahawks.

Although the game was sealed at this point, senior defensive back Devin Wood made an incredibly play when he intercepted Panthers quarterback Dante Young and returned it 60 yards for the touchdown. At the time, it brought the score to 41-28. South would end up recovered the onside kick and seal the victory.

For the Panthers, they will return to Stellos Stadium Friday to face crosstown rival Nashua North (4-0) for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff. Merrimack also plays at Stellos at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday against Bishop Guertin (3-1).
