Nashua South cruises to win over Hollis Brookline
NASHUA -Anthony Muccioli scored 17 points to lead the Nashua High School South boys basketball team to a 65-34 win over Hollis Brookline in final game Tuesday at the Chick-fil-A Holiday Tournament at South.
The Panthers got points from 12 of the 13 players listed on the roster, including nine points from Jack Preston and seven from Michael Dunham. South led 16-5 at the end of the first quarter, and pushed the lead to 18 points at halftime.
A big lead in a holiday tournament led to some sloppy play for South, and Panthers coach Nate Mazerolle would like to see his team avoid those types of mistakes.
"Things were just too loose, nothing was precise," Mazerolle said. "After the last two seasons we’ve had, I should accept everything as ‘hey, we won.’ There’s just a lot of things that all of us know, that’s not how we do things. It was sloppy.
"It was a win and I’m excited about that, but as I told them, on Tuesdays and Fridays after New Year’s that kind of thing will haunt us."
Tim Rencken had eight points to lead the Cavaliers, who also got seven points from James Wilson.
South advances to the winner's bracket, where it will face Thornton Academy at 7:3o p.m. Wednesday. HB moves into the loser's bracket and will take on Campbell at 4:30 p.m.
