Nashua North's Chimelski advances to quarterfinals at wrestling nationals

Joe Chimelski, a senior wrestler at Nashua High School North, won his first two matches Friday at the NHSCA National Wrestling Tournament at Virginia Beach, Va.

Chimelski's next match was scheduled to be against Colton Grossaint, a wrestler from Utah, in the quarterfinals at 195 pounds in the senior division. The tournament is divided not only by weight class, but also grade.

Chimelski opened the tournament with a pin of Tyler McClendon, of Tennessee, and followed that with a 3-2 win over Adam Kuchta, of Ohio.

Nashua South's Wilson Pellot dropped both of his matches in the tournament at 160 in the senior division while Patrick Sands, of Bishop Guertin, also wrestled at 160 in the senior division, and also lost both of his matches. Ben Gilman, of Bedford, dropped his first two matches in the senior division at 126.

Tyler Fitzpatrick, of Timberlane, and Mitch Rose, of Londonderry, were both competing at 113 in the senior division. Both won their opening match before losing the second and dropping into the consolation bracket.

In the junior division, Londonderry's Jean-Luc Lemieux advanced to the quarterfinals at 126, and because of the number of entries in that weight class, he needed to win four matches to do it. That included a 4-0 win over Sam Cali, of New Jersey, to reach the quarterfinals. Lemieux was scheduled to wrestle Rico Montoya, of New Mexico, in the quarters.

Also in the junior division, Bishop Guertin's Brandon Levesque won his first three matches, but fell to Evan Cheek, of Ohio, in the Round of 16 at 132. Levesque was scheduled to wrestle in the consolation bracket Saturday.

Richard Mills, of Winnisquam, won his first match at 170, but lost his next one to fall to the consolation bracket. After winning a match there, Mills is scheduled to wrestle Sasha Key, of Florida. Timberlane's Dan Scalzo lost in both of his matches at 138 in the junior division, while Richard Bilodeau, of Londonderry, dropped both of his matches at 182.

In the sophomore division, Ryan Peters, of Timberlane, reached the semifinals at 132 after winning his first four matches at the tournament. He was scheduled to face Jarrett Degen, of Montana. Peters won his first three matches with a pin in the second period in each, and then defeated Hunter Ladnier, of Ohio, 10-6 in the quarterfinals.

Dylan Barreiro, of Pinkerton, captured his three first matches to reach the quarterfinals at 160. Barreiro was scheduled to wrestle Luke Drugac, of New Jersey, Saturday for a spot in the semifinals.

Keene's Tristan Stetson won his first two matches at 106 before losing his third to fall into the consolation bracket. Stetson picked up a win there and was scheduled to wrestle later Saturday. Bedford's Jacob Hall also was in the 106 bracket, but dropped both of his matches. At 138, Timberlane's Cameron Altobelli dropped his first match of the tournament but bounced back to win in the consolation bracket before losing again in his third match.

In the freshman division, Shayne McCann, of Pinkerton, won his first match at 106 but dropped his second to fall into the consolation bracket. McCann bounced back to win his next three matches before losing 1-0 to Dane Heberlein, of New York.

Bedford's Victor Plante II dropped both of his matches at 126, as did Zack Gilman at 138. Pinkerton's Deene Hill lost his first match at 285 and will continue wrestling in the consolation bracket.

The tournament is scheduled to conclude on Sunday.
