# Nashua North tries to build off win, hosts Londonderry

The Nashua High School North football kept working and working last Friday night against Winnacunnet.

Eventually, the Titans hard work paid off.

North rallied from a 7-0 deficit and held on for a 14-7 win in the season opener, giving coach Jason Robie something positive to build off heading into the team's Division I opener. The Titans will host Londonderry at 7 p.m. Friday at Stellos Stadium.

"I think that the kids persevered pretty well," Robie said. "We followed our game plan. The kids never quit. When we scored, momentum changed a little bit. A couple of defensive stops and then we scored again. We’re riding some momentum and then they get a big play, and we answer with a big play. One of the things we talk about is playing the next snap regardless of whether it was a good result or a bad result. Our kids played the next snap. I think that’s the biggest thing."

The win was a big one for a team that returns little from the group that advanced to two straight Division I championship games. To get a come-from-behind win in the first week of the season meant a lot to the players, some of whom where getting their first varsity experience.

"You’re on the road, you’re going to a school that has a good football tradition, good players, good coaches," Robie said. "When your backs against the wall in the fourth quarter and you answer the bell, it’s a huge win for a young team. It goes a long way to show the kids that if you do the things that you practice and you play the next snap, you’re going to win more than you lose, hopefully."

The Titans will be facing another one of those teams when they take the field Friday against Londonderry. The Lancers are coming off a loss to Division III Milford, and Robie expects them to be ready to bounce back.

"I know Londonderry kids are tough and resilient and they’re going to be hungry for this game," Robie said. "They’ll be ready for us. They’re well coached, they’ve got good football players. It’s going to be a true test."

Londonderry could be without its top running back, Sean O'Gorman, for the second week in a row. Without him, the Lancers struggled to move the ball against a tough Milford defense. But while Londonderry's single-wing offense is always a tough matchup, North is trying to come up with a game plan to go against the Lancers' defense.

"We really don’t know what we’re going to see," Robie said of Londonderry's defense. "Personnel changes. It’s a guessing game. We’ve kind of simplified things for our kids. Not that things weren’t simple last year. We don’t want to overwhelm the kids with too much stuff. We have some things we’re still working on. If it’s a low-scoring game, that’s OK, too. We can do OK in a low-scoring game. But we have an offense that can score quickly."

North and Londonderry will kick off at 7 p.m. Friday at Stellos Stadium.
