NASHUA - The Nashua High School North boys hockey team knows a goal at the beginning or end of a period can be a huge momentum changer.

The Titans did both in a matter of 131 seconds spanning the first and second period Saturday on the way to a 3-1 win over Hanover in Division I action. North followed that up with a 6-1 win over Nashua South on Monday to improve its record to 5-0 in the division.

In Saturday's win, Jon Wilson had a goal and an assist while Dan LeBlanc and Jake Latham also scored. Nick Johnson added two assists while Tyler Searles and Tim and Joseph Paige each had an assist.

Jake Genest made 13 saves, including a series of big stops in the first period that left North coach Dan Legro feeling fortunate at the first intermission.

"Part of that first period was our goalie playing outstanding," Legro said of Genest. "He made at least two or three goal-scoring opportunities not happen and that was big for us to get through the first period the way that we did.

"I felt fortunate that they didn't score in the first period with the opportunities they had. I came out of the first period saying we were lucky they didn't score."

Hanover coach Dick Dodds agreed that his team missed out on some good opportunities early in the game.

"I thought we played inconsistent," the Marauders coach said. "Their goalie played well when he had to early. We had a couple of good scoring chances that he stopped. The second one was when North came back and scored. What a difference 10 seconds makes."

Latham's tally put the Titans up 1-0 with 1:16 left in the opening period, and Wilson made it 2-0 just 55 seconds into the second.

"Any goal you get at the beginning or end of a period is big," Legro said. "It’s like getting the wind knocked out of you."

The second goal was just the beginning in a period dominated by North. The Titans held a 12-2 advantage in shots, as Hanover goalie Lukas Ratliff (21 saves) helped to keep the Marauders (1-2) in it.

"When North managed to get that first one, it set us back a little bit," Dodds said. "It set the stage for their big second period and we kind of laid an egg."

North looked to extend the lead early in the third, but Hanover managed to kill off two penalties. But with 5:57 left to play, LeBlanc took a short pass from Joseph Paige, put a shot right on Ratliff and somehow the puck trickled through to make it 3-0.

"We were just trying to throw the puck at the net," Legro said. "No matter how good a goalie is, if you put the puck at the net enough times, and get enough screens, tips or rebounds, no matter who it is, eventually, it’s going to go in."

The extra goal proved beneficial for the Titans, as Hanover's Ben Chaimberg ended Genest's shutout at 11:05 of the third, scoring off assists from Gus Lyons and Matt Leskovar.
