NASHUA - Hannah Fortin was just trying to give the Nashua High School North girls lacrosse team another opportunity to win the game.

Instead, the senior ended up securing the Titans' fourth win in a row Monday.

Fortin's pass from behind the cage hit the outstretched stick of Dover goalie Emma Tower, went down into the crease and bounced across the goal line, giving North a come-from-behind 14-13 win in overtime in a Division I game at Stellos Stadium.

The Titans (4-5) had trailed by three goals with 4:33 left in regulation, but were able to come back, tying the game on a goal by Kaylee Hubbard with 51.8 seconds to play. Hubbard appeared to win the game for North as time expired, but a foul on the Green Wave (1-4) before the goal kept it tied and Hubbard's free-position attempt was stopped by Tower.

"I think we started pretty sloppy and started to pick it up halfway through the first half," North co-coach Kristen Peterson said. "The girls really wanted it, so they fought hard and really dug deep. In overtime, they were amazing and dominated."

North won the draw in overtime and never gave up possession, but the Titans missed a pair of chances to end the game, as Hubbard and Campbell Haller missed on free-position shots. Tower made the save on Haller's attempt, but wasn't able to control the rebound, and Fortin ended up with the ball behind the net, setting up the game-winning score.

"I was looking for Campbell and I saw her," Fortin said of her pass attempt that went in. "I was just really happy. We were all hyped from the tying goal to go into overtime and we just didn’t give up and we were in it."

Haller led the Titans with nine goals, including back-to-back goals 1:17 apart to get North within one goal with 1:18 to play. Fortin had two goals while Hubbard, Lily Brooks and Theresa Ellison also had a goal apiece.

Hubbard had a chance to win it at the end of regulation thanks to a save by North goalie Samantha Canto (seven saves) on Dover's Matilda Darrah with under 30 seconds remaining. Lily Brooks was able to find Hubbard with 11.7 seconds left and the senior went the length of the field before Dover was called for a foul with two seconds remaining.

The Green Wave got six goals and an assist from Darrah while Greta Gavoni added four goals and Elizabeth Menard (assist), Emily Fraser and Kendal Peck had a goal apiece. Tower finished with 14 saves.

North led 6-5 at halftime, but Dover scored the first two goals of the second to take the lead. The Titans responded with a pair of goals to go back in front, but the Green Wave answered with a 3-0 run to take a 10-8 lead with 12:56 remaining.

Dover got the lead up to 12-9 but Haller scored to get it back to two goals with 4:57 to play and North took a timeout.

"They were up by two so we knew they were going to stall, so we wanted to pressure the ball, double the ball, down on their end if they got it," Peterson said. "That’s exactly what we did and we caused a couple of turnovers."

But not until after Darrah attacked North's pressure and scored to make it 13-10 with 4:33 to play. The Green Wave won the ensuing draw, but turned the ball over right away, leading a to a free-position goal by Haller and the start of the Titans' game-tying run.

The win was the fourth in a row for North after starting the season with five losses. The Titans will have a chance to get their record back even on Thursday against Nashua South at 5 p.m. in the first game of a varsity doubleheader.

"We’re ready for Thursday," Peterson said. "It brings out an extra level of intensity in the girls just because it’s such a rivalry. We don’t need to pump them up because they already are."
