NASHUA - Ricky Oliver knew something was up with his Nashua High School North girls basketball team.

The Titans didn't seem like themselves for most of the first half Thursday night against Manchester Memorial, scoring just five points in the first quarter and committing more fouls than they normally do in a game.

At halftime, Oliver had one question for his team, which was coming off a one-point win over Bishop Guertin two nights before.

"I asked them (at halftime) are some of you thinking about the game we played on Tuesday?" Oliver said. "I said be honest, I already know the answer. Some of them were still on that high."

North got back to its game in the second half, putting pressure on Memorial without fouling, and taking advantage of every opportunity on the way to a 64-48 win over the Crusaders.

Sara Cordova had a game-high 21 points and Adaeze Okorie added 17 points, with the pair combining for 11 of North's 14 steals. The Titans (10-5) forced Memorial into 22 turnovers, including seven during a 13-2 run in the third quarter that turned a six-point game at halftime into a 17-point lead for North.

"What it does is it makes them have to play fast, and that’s what the key is," Oliver said of the Titans' press. "Make you play fast and then we can turn you over.

"We played so lackadaisical in the first half. It was like they thought this was really going to be easy and that people were going to lay because they just beat BG. You've got to come out and re-prove yourself every game. Every game is a brand new game, just like every morning, when the sun comes up, it's a brand new day."

Memorial got 15 points from Makenah Grisson while Haley Shea added 14 points and Katlina Francis chipped in with 11.

Taylor Choate was also in double figures for North with 12 points and Isabel Dunning had eight while Danielle Upton came off the bench to score six points.

"They just compete, that's all they want to do," Oliver said of his players. "That's what I love about them, but I felt early that I had to be on them a little harder."

It worked to some degree in the second quarter, as North went on a 13-1 run to open the frame to turn an 8-5 deficit into an 18-9 lead. Memorial (8-6) was able to stay in it however, and trailed 24-18 at halftime.

North's run to open the second half put the game away, and the Crusaders couldn't get any closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

"We're peaking at the right time, but we need to hang in there and we need these wins," Oliver said. "The goal is to stay in that upper tier. You've got to win the games you're supposed to win and then sneak up and steal one or two."
