NASHUA - The first quarter of Wednesday's Division I preliminary round game was a struggle for the Nashua High School North girls basketball team.

Nerves and confusion from a late change to the starting lineup had the Titans scrambling through the first seven minutes against Manchester Memorial.

But like North has for most of the season, it turned to senior Isabel Dunning to right the ship.

Dunning helped spark the No. 8 Titans, as they surged ahead in the second quarter on the way to a 60-43 win over No. 9 Manchester Memorial. The win sends North to the quarterfinals, where it will take on top-seeded Bishop Guertin on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Titans (10-9) got 22 points from Dunning while Alana Choate added 13 points and Danielle Upton was also in double figures with 11, including three 3-pointers.

"We just decided to start playing as team," Dunning said. "We realized it's win a game or the season is over, so we just decided to play as a team. We wanted to keep going. I feel like I need to play that way every game. I always give 150 percent. I feel like my teammates do, too. It feels good to know that you gave everything."

After falling behind 13-8 in the first quarter, North went on a 17-2 run behind the 3-point shooting of Choate and Upton and the inside game of Dunning.

"Danielle stepped up and hit a bunch, Alana hit a few, Peyton (Ryan) had a few, and it's nice when they fall in," North coach Christian Collins said of the team's outside shooting. "It starts with (Dunning) She knows it and she accepts that leadership. The rest of them have done a great job of following it."

Memorial (9-10) got 16 points from Melanie Presseau, who hit three 3s, while Haleigh Shea had 13 points, but just two after halftime.

"For our team to be successful, we need to be able to rebound and push the tempo," Memorial coach Greg Cotreau said. "They did a really good job controlling the glass where we weren't able to rebound and weren't able to push. It's a tough matchup because (North) has a lot of quickness. Our guards don't rebound well and we need our bigs to rebound well."

North led 27-20 at the break but Memorial was able to close the gap to four points early in the third on a 3 by Presseau. A 3 by Upton and a basket by Ryan helped push North's lead back to 10, but the Crusaders were able to make it a five-point game by the end of the third.

The Titans opened the fourth with a 9-4 run, which included a layup and 3 by Choate, to go ahead 51-41 with 4:53 to play. The lead would remain at double digits for North the rest of the way, as Memorial was forced to foul and the Titans went 7 of 11 from the line in the final 2:20.
