Nashua North boys track holds off Londonderry to win D1 title

HAMPTON - Nate Burns knew there would be three field events that would be key in Friday's Division I boys track championship.

Burns' Nashua High School North team and Londonderry were seeded high in the long jump, triple jump and pole vault, and whoever came out on top in those events would have a great shot at winning the meet.

"It was the head-to-head events, the long jump, the pole vault, the triple jump," Burns said. "Those were the big events. They stepped up."

North outscored Londonderry 31-18 in those three events, including a 16-8 advantage in the long jump, thanks to a first place from Jordan Buckmire and third from Edward Vargas. Those events helped take some pressure of North's 4x400-meter relay team and the Titans scored 81 points to finish ahead of Londonderry, which had 77.
