NASHUA - This season for the Nashua High School North boys lacrosse team has looked unlike any other to Matt Muser.

At the top of that list of differences might be Thursday night's game against Nashua South.

After plenty of back-and-forth play throughout the game, North found itself down two goals in the fourth quarter before going on a 4-0 run in the final five-plus minutes to capture an 11-9 win over the Panthers in the first of two Battle of the Bridge meeting between the two teams this year.

The win snapped the Titans' nine-game losing streak to their Gate City rivals, the first time North has beaten South since a 12-8 win on May 17, 2017\. It also gives the Titans four wins in a season for the first time since that 2017 season, and at 4-6 in Division I, North currently holds a playoff spot.

"It’s enormous for this program," said Muser, who has been the Titans coach since 2020\. "Since I took over, we’re struggling to get one or two wins. Having four, these guys see it is possible with the amount of work they put in. The work we put in since we started is translating into wins.

"It can get sad for them. You have 18 games and you’re maybe in two or three of them. Now we’re playing up to the level we can. This is the first time I’ve beaten South. Having a rivalry game like this, it gets the juices going."

Perhaps the best sign for North is the balance it got from across the field. Jack Peters led the way with four goals, including the game-winner, while Nick Wilkinson (one assist), Ashton Carroll and Austin Kaminaris each had two goals and Alec Jenkerson added one.

Jace Colon finished with nine saves for the Titans while Ty Washam led a defensive effort that kept South (2-9) scoreless for the final 10 minutes of the game.

"We made a couple of key saves and got a couple of key groundballs," Muser said. "We were able to get the ball up and once we got it down to our attack, we told them, their poles are aggressive, they throw a lot of checks. We can take advantage of that, keep trying to move our feet. Then the tides kind of turned. Just being more aggressive on the offensive end, actually forcing their poles to play harder defense on guys and not just letting them take the ball away, that helped."

The Panthers got five goals from Beau Dubois and four from Broden Landsteiner, as they matched a season-high in scoring. Jake Lynn finished with 16 saves, stymying the North offense for a long stretch of the second half.

"Jake stood on his head," South coach Will DeLanoy said. "He stopped a lot of inside and outside shots and he was really on it. I know the offensive guys feel bad that we didn’t take care of business. He played awesome. For a sophomore to play in a game like that and hold his composure was awesome."

Peters scored the game's first two goals to give the Titans a 2-0 lead with 3:23 remaining in the opening quarter, but Dubois answered for South, going on a personal 3-0 run in the final 2:42 of the first to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead.

North came back in the second to take a 4-3 lead on goals by Wilkinson and Kaminaris, but Landsteiner tied it at 4 with 1:28 remaining. Peters got the lead back for the Titans 23 seconds later, but Dubois scored with 12.1 seconds to go to make it 5-5 at the break.

"I liked the intensity," DeLanoy said. "It’s the first time we’ve really shown that intensity level and that’s our standard right there. Other guys stepped up big."

Landsteiner and Cody Goode were big for South on faceoffs against North's Dylan Noble, as the teams went back and forth through the second half.

The Titans scored twice to start the third quarter, taking a 7-5 lead with 7:34 remaining, but the Panthers answered with a 3-0 run in the final 2:22 of the quarter, going up 8-7 on a buzzer-beater by Landsteiner. The sophomore added another goal 1:33 into the fourth to give South a 9-7 lead, but North did all the scoring from there.

Jenkerson tied the game with 4:31 remaining, and after a faceoff win, the Titans control possession, finally getting a manup goal by Peters with 2:39 left to play to take a 10-9 lead. Kaminaris gave North some insurance, scoring with 1:04 remaining.

"(Lynn) made some outstanding saves," Muser said. "We were telling them to change planes, go low, and he keyed on all of that and he made some solid saves. We didn’t have a ton of outside shots, so the inside shots, we were trying to go low first and then high. Once he keyed on that, it’s about trying to get the balance back and we went more up top. That goes back to being aggressive, too."
