Milford boys win first title on home track

The Milford High School boys track team held on late for its first title in program history Saturday, winning the Division II championship by 3.5 points over Lebanon.

The Spartans recorded 95.5 points on their home track to the Raiders' 92, snapping Lebanon's streak of seven straight titles. Oyster River was third with 61 points and Merrimack Valley came in fourth with 59.5. Bedford and Souhegan tied for fifth with 46 points.

On the girls side, Lebanon dominated, scoring 114 points to finish ahead of second-place Bedford (59) and Milford (57), which finished third. Coe-Brown was fourth with 46 points and Portsmouth came in fifth with 40.

Souhegan (28) tied with Sanborn and Merrimack Valley for eighth, while Hollis/Brookline (2) was 20th.

Overall, seven division records were set, including the records in both boys and girls hurdle races.

Max Goudreau led the Milford boys by finishing first in the 100-meter dash (11.19 seconds) and the long jump (21-0), and took second in the 200 (23.09) and fourth in the triple jump (41-3.25).

The Spartans had three place in the high jump, with Parker Lyttle winning by clearing 6-2. Jared Asselin was second and Tate Poplar was fifth, and also came in second in the pole vault.

Connor Jackson was third in the 3,200 and Connor Crowley came in fourth in the 800 and the two teamed with John Amerault and David Wilson to finish third in the 4x800.

Peter Benoit came in second in the javelin, while Mark Hamilton placed third in the discus and Jordan Gaudette was fourth in the shot put.

Bedford won the 4x100 relay (43.62), setting a division record and missing out on the state record by sixth tenths of a second. The Bulldogs also placed fourth in the 4x800 relay.

Dylan York was second in the 100 and sixth in the 200 and Justin Rooney was second in the shot put and fourth in the discus.

Christopher Giraldi came in sixth in the 400 and Kindell Benten placed fourth in the 110 hurdles. Luke McDonough came in fourth in the pole vault.

Souhegan set a division record in the 4x800 relay, winning in 8:04.74 to break the record set by Milford last year. The Sabers also won the 4x400 relay (3:30.38) and was fourth in the 4x100 relay.

Bert DeForest came in third in the 800 and Ben DeForest was fifth in the 110 hurdles. Andrew Coates was third in the high jump while Tanner Kent came in third and Dennis Elverson took fifth in the 400.

Merrimack Valley's D'Mahl McFadden had an incredible day, setting records in the 110 hurdles (14.29) and the 300 hurdles (38.66) and winning the 200 (22.79). McFadden's time in the 110 hurdles broke the record of 14.6 that had been set in 1982.

Oyster River's Gubby Noronha also set a record in the 800, winning in 1:55.43.

Girls

Jenny Mara led Bedford by successfully defending her high jump title, as the sophomore won the event for the second straight year by clearing 5-4. Teammate Brenna Williams also won the long jump with a leap of 16-6.5.

Bedford won the 4x100 relay (50.3), came in second in the 4x400 and was fifth in the 4x800.

Johanna Celli placed fourth in the 100 and sixth in the 400 while Rebecca Greaney was third, Samantha Dee was fourth and Amanda Ouellette came in sixth in the discus.

Rachel Allen took fifth and Williams was sixth in the 300 hurdles.

Milford's Courtney Hawkins won the 3,200 (11:09.04) and finished second in the 1,600 by five hundredths of a second.

Dina Pitsas won the 400 (59.77) and came in sixth in the 800 while Jessica Krafft was second in both the 100 and 200. Sarah Martineau placed third in the high jump and Milford also took third in the 4x400 relay.

Souhegan got a first-place finish from Isabelle Stuopis in the discus (111-9). Stuopis also took second in the shot put.

Erin MacDonald took fifth place in the 100 and Cammie Formby-Lavertu was sixth in the high jump.

Souhegan took third in the 4x800 relay and was sixth in the 4x100 relay.

Hollis/Brookline's Cailie Kern came in fifth in the long jump.

Sanborn's Ginny Lavalle set a record in both the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles (45.2). Lavalle's record in the 100 hurdles (14.8) came in the prelims, but she still finished first in the final.

The top four finishers in every event advance to the Meet of Champions, which will be held June 4 at Merrimack High School.
