Merrimack's Gendron, Winnacunnet's O'Neil named Gatorade POYs
Merrimack's Tyler Gendron and Winnacunnet's Kirsten O'Neil were named New Hampshire's Gatorade Players of the Year for boys and girls basketball.
Merrimack's Tyler Gendron and Winnacunnet's Kirsten O'Neil were named New Hampshire's Gatorade Players of the Year for boys and girls basketball.
Gendron helped the Tomahawks to the Division I championship this season, as Merrimack compiled a 19-6 overall record. A senior forward, Gendron did a little bit of everything, averaging 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocks a game. In the title game win over Manchester Central, he had 10 points and nine rebounds. Gendron was also named Mr. Basketball by the New Hampshire Basketball Coaches Organization.
O'Neil led the Warriors to a 21-1 record and the Division I semifinals, where Winnacunnet saw its run of five-straight championships end. The senior guard averaged 15.6 points, 10.2 assists, four steals and three rebounds a game. During her career, the Warriors put together a record of 70-2.
