Merrimack's Downie earns D2 hockey POY honors

David Downie of Merrimack High School was named the Division II boys hockey Player of the Year, and was one of over a dozen area players to receive All-State honors.

Downie, who had 25 goals for the Tomahawks this season, was also named to the Division II first team, while Bedford coach Marty Myers was named the division's Coach of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to their first championship.

Bedford's Michael Ahern also received first-team honors, while teammate Tyler Wise was named to the second team and Chris O'Hara was named honorable mention. Merrimack's Connor Powell was named to the division's second-team.

Souhegan's Dan Belliveau, in his first year leading the Sabers, was named the Division III Coach of the Year, while Souhegan players Stevie Upton and Connor Casey were both named to the division's first team. Teammate Mike Hayden was named honorable mention.

Alvirne's Ryan Bellerose was named to the first team while teammate Cam Brock received second-team honors. Hollis Brookline's Honza Havlena was also named to the division's second team.

Nashua North's Marc Lavine received Division I second-team honors, while Nashua South goalie Cam Ansel was named honorable mention. For the girls, Bishop Guertin's Sabrina Dobbins and Danielle Lange were both named to the second team.
