A look at some of the top performers in New Hampshire football in 2016

Here are our choices for Player of the Year and Coach of the Year from all three football divisions.

Division I

Player of the Year: Justin Grassini, Merrimack

While the Tomahawks came up short of the Division I championship, their senior quarterback left his mark on the New Hampshire record books. Grassini finished the year with 43 touchdown passes to break the state record, and also set a single-game record with nine touchdowns in a win over Pinkerton. He also threw for over 3,500 yards, and helped Merrimack to its best record (9-2) and first playoff win in two decades.

Coach of the Year: Ken Osbon, Dover

Dover went into this year having won just four of its previous 27 games, but after a Week 1 loss to Exeter, the Green Wave won six of their next seven games. Despite the dismissal of several coaches during the season, Osbon had Dover seconds away from the team's first postseason appearance since 2011.

Division II

Player of the Year: Garrett Macomber, Plymouth

On a team that seemed to suffer a serious injury every other week, Macomber was the steadying hand and the workhorse for the Bobcats, excelling on both sides of the ball. The junior rushed for over 2,400 yards this season, including 501 in the playoffs, and his only catch of the year was a 15-yard touchdown reception that won the Division II championship for Plymouth.

Coach of the Year: Paul Cohen, Bow

Although Bow was a consistent playoff team in Division III, no one expected the Falcons to make a run to the championship game during their first season in Division II. Bow came together this season under Cohen and not only showed the small school could compete at a higher level. The Falcons were one play away from winning the D2 title.

Division III

Player of the Year: Levi Bassingthwaite, Monadnock

Bassingthwaite broke the school record of 1,477 rushing yards by running for over 1,600 yards this season. The senior also helped lead the Huskies to a perfect record in the regular season and a trip to the Division III semifinals, Monadnock's sixth playoff appearance in the last eight years.

Coach of the Year: Paul Silva, Stevens

Silva not only helped guide the Cardinals to a 9-2 and the program's first championship since 1968, he did so against two teams who had previously beat Stevens during the regular season. Once in the championship game, the Cardinals looked nearly flawless, especially in the second half, when they pulled away from Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough.
