LONDONDERRY - When Jimmy Lauzon went back over his game plan after the Londonderry High School football team played Windham in the regular season, the Lancers coach felt like he could do better.

Lauzon got another chance in Saturday's Division I preliminary round, and the result was much different.

After beating the Jaguars by a touchdown the first time around, No. 4 Londonderry got off to a much different start, scoring on its first four possessions on the way to a 46-0 win over No. 13 Windham. The win puts the Lancers in the quarterfinals next weekend, where they will host No. 5 Exeter either next Friday or Saturday.

Londonderry ran for 321 yards, averaging 8.4 yards per carry, while scoring six touchdowns on the ground. Senior Jake Schena led the way with 89 yards and two scores on nine carries and Sam Ogden added 70 yards and a touchdown on the ground while throwing for a touchdown as well.

"That’s what we’re capable of doing when we’re fully locked in and execute at a high level," Lauzon said. "Both teams are talented, so it worried me if we’d be able to do that. I think we’re pretty strong up front and we imposed our will early on. That kind of took the air out of them, I think, and we were able to pile it on from there."

The teams' first meeting was on the final Friday in September and played in a driving rain for most of the night. The Lancers moved the ball, including a long touchdown drive in the second half that proved to be the difference, but had trouble holding onto the ball in the wet weather.

"We had a couple of good drives the first time we saw them," Lauzon said. "We put the ball on the ground a couple of times, probably because of the weather, you’d like to think. We put the ball on the ground more in that game than any other.

"You think your game plan is solid, and then looking back on it, I was like ‘no, we can make a better game plan than that.’ I think we did that (Saturday). It was just a better game plan and we executed it better."

Londonderry (8-1) also got rushing touchdowns from Alex Villa, Caiden Malek and Jaydon Navarro, while Mason Paquette caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Ogden.

The Lancers were able to keep Windham's Tiger An in check, limiting the senior to just 17 yards on nine carries. Billy Depietro ran for 76 yards on 14 carries and was 6 of 23 for 74 yards, but went 0 for 10 in the second half.

"It’s being ready to deal with adversity," Windham coach Jack Byrne said of playing Londonderry. "They are the No. 1 lesson our guys have learned on how to deal with adversity because they’re not going to give you a lot. The openings that you have are really small and you have to take advantage of them. That’s not just their coaches, the kids are doing it."

Windham (3-6) looked like it might pick up momentum on its first drive, when Depietro hit Matt Desmarais for a 35-yard gain on third-and-12\. But the Jaguars turned the ball over on downs on Londonderry's 42-yard line four plays later.

Schena opened the possession with back-to-back runs of 19 and 8 yards, starting an eight-play drive that ended with Villa's 3-yard touchdown.

After the Jaguars went three-and-out, a short punt by Depietro gave the Lancers the ball at Windham's 46\. Londonderry covered that in nine plays, getting a 10-yard run from Schena, to take a 13-0 lead with just 46.8 seconds left in the first quarter.

Another three-and-out and another short punt gave Londonderry the ball on the Jaguars' 39, but a hold pushed the Lancers back. Schena got the yardage back and more on the next play, going 45 yards for a score and a 20-0 lead.

"He’s the most experienced guy we have from a playoff standpoint," Lauzon said of Schena. "Him and Ty (Miles), they were in those playoff games as sophomores. To rely on those two guys heavily in this one, and for them to step up, it’s great. Great to see Jake break some long ones because they have a lot of speed and they were able to contain him the first time."

Ogden added a 45-yard scoring run on the next Londonderry possession and then it was the defense's turn to make a stand.

Windham drove down inside the Lancers' 15 in the final minute of the half, but on fourth-and-8 from the 10, Chris Brearley was stopped for a 5-yard loss by Londonderry's Brandon Gear and Devin Boles to end the half.

"We never plan on going down a few scores, but we’re always talking about when you’re down, you just need to keep chipping away," Byrne said. "I don’t think it changed too much. They’re rebuttal against us was just more. That’s how you play a complete football game."

Londonderry took the opening possession of the second half and drove down to the Windham 10, but lost a yard on three plays. On fourth-and-goal from the 11, Ogden found Paquette for a touchdown and a 33-0 lead.

The Lancers got the game into running time on their next possession on Navarro's 4-yard scoring run.

"I challenged the guys," Lauzon said. "They brought the energy for four quarters. We’ve also let teams back in games. Great teams finish and play with four quarters of intensity and that’s what we did."
