Finn Littlefield always enjoyed playing football.

It wasn't until the senior got to Nashua High School North that he realized how much he enjoyed it, and how much he wanted to be good at it.

After playing two seasons as a lineman for the Titans - and two years on the wrestling team - Littlefield had taken his share of lumps, and decided he had enough it.

"I remember even freshman year, I wasn't bad, but I wasn't good," Littlefield said. "I was just normal, and then I started working hard. Hard work is all it takes. Failure pushed me. In wrestling, I didn't like losing matches."

Thanks to some guidance from former North coach Jason Robie, and current Titans coach Dante Laurendi, Littlefield has turned himself into one of the team's most consistent performers on the field and is a captain for North this season.

Laurendi attributes Littlefield's success to a work ethic that is unlike many he's seen before from a high school athlete.

"You haven't seen what working out hard is until you've watch (Littlefield) working out," the coach said. "He's made a great effort to become a complete lineman and really understand the game a lot better.

"I think he always had the physical side. He's always wanted to finish, play physical, play to the whistle. In the offseason, he takes a look at himself, and in his mind, he thinks there are short comings and he spends a lot of time working on that to try to improve."

Getting better is something that Littlefield is conscious of during every workout and every season.

"One of my favorite quotes is 'it's not where you start, it's where you finish,' " he said. "We can go as far as we want to. There's no limit, but it's all work, if we put in the work, I know we can do great stuff. This week we had a really good week of practice, so I know we're improving."

While Littlefield sees himself as more of a football player than a wrestler, he knows that the work he's put in on the mats has helped him on the football field, whether it's body control or learning how to use his hands.

"Wrestling is great because it's great body control," Laurendi said. "We love for kids to lift weights and get stronger, but we can't take those weights out on the field.

"When you're doing something like wrestling, and the idea is to be on top of the other person, the quick movement and learning how to control your body and learning how to switch your hands really quick, that's a huge help, especially for guys who are as tall as he is. It's helped him out tremendously."

Littlefield feels like he can take a lot of different aspects of other sports and also use those to become a better football player.

"Wrestling helps with leverage a lot," he said. "I used to play lacrosse, and the defense is like pass blocking. You're protecting the goal instead of the quarterback. Basketball, (assistant) coach (Chad) Zibolis, he always tells us when you get in the open field, pretend you're playing basketball with the guy."

Although he's focused on helping the Titans get back to the postseason this year, Littlefield is also thinking about next year, and hopes that he's able to play football at the next level.

"He's going to have opportunities to play at the next level," Laurendi said. "First, he's a great kid. Second, he's a great student. As hard as he works in the weight room, he works just as hard in the class room. His size and his work ethic and what he'll put out on film, he's going to get interest from a lot of colleges."
