Late surge lifts Thornton past Hollis/Brookline in Chick-fil-A Tournament

NASHUA - The Hollis/Brookline High School boys basketball team kept it close until midway through the fourth quarter before falling to Thornton Academy 68-54 in the second game of Tuesday's opening-round at the Chick-fil-A Holiday Tournament at Nashua North.

H/B trailed 54-50 with 5:27 left to play, but the Golden Torjans from Sacco, Maine, finished the game with a 14-4 run and held the Cavaliers scoreless for the final 2:20 of the game.

Thornton's Andrew Shaw led all scorers with 32 points, including six 3-pointers, and Adam Ek added three 3-pointers and 18 points.

Brian Liamos led H/B with 14 points while Miles Tobin added 13 and Matt Haight chipped in 12 markers in a losing effort. H/B had a 28-26 lead with 3:52 left in the first half, and every time the Trojans made a run to push the lead to nine or 10, the Cavs found a way to cut it back down.

H/B will face Nashua North at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Thornton will take on Bedford at 7:30 p.m.
